"So you finally managed to snag him did you?" Aletta asked amused.
Kirra smiled at the woman who's dragon had searched her, and who was her friend, "Yeah, well it's more like he snagged me."
"Congratualtions." she smiled and decided to tease her friend a little. "Did I ever tell you I had a dragonsized crush on him?"
Kirra blushed a little but wouldn't let her friend get the pleasure of seeing her too uncomfortable, "I'll take that as a compiment, just like I have from every other girl in the Weyr." Aletta had agread to teach her how to take care of riding straps, so Kirra had brought Z'al's extra set to learn on. She also wanted to learn so that she could do it for Z'al when he was busy.
She knew that Z'al had been quite the favorite among many women before she and him had gotten involved, and was rather successful at looking at it as a comfort. According to everyone he didn't have the personality of some one who would settle down, and yet he had, with her.
"I even wanted him to win Farsith's flight." she sighed dramticly. "It wasn't to be though, Nyinth didn't even chase. So I moved on."
Kirra rolled her eyes at her friend, thinking about the rumored issues she was having with a certain harper. The woman didn't have much luck with men apperently, but she knew better than to voice that. Instead she kept up the two sided teasing with a sarcastic rebuke, "Well, I can't think of a reason _why_ he wouldn't." She smiled sweetly at her friend feigning ignorance.
"Other than his age, what would that be? It couldn't be Farsith, she's the most wonderful green in the weyr."
Kirra rubbed oil into the leather of Farsith's straps as she tried tocontrol her emotions. She knew that Aletta hadn't meant anything by it but it had only been a sevenday or so from the last hatching and try as she might Kirra couldn't forget the feeling of not being included, of not having impressed.
She tried to cover it by shaking her head at her friend, "Maybe it's because you were too full of yourself, like you're being right now!"
Aletta flinched, it sounded a little too much like some thing Figol would say. "Sorry Kirra." Funny she could say it to a girlfriend but not to him.
"No, it's fine. I shouldn't have snapped." Kirra tightened a buckle as she tried to find the right words to explain herself. "I guess I'm still a little sinsitive about not impressing at the last hatching. And I guess I'm also a little nervous about living with Z'al. I mean I love him, and I know he loves me, but sometimes I worry that I'm not doing everything I can as his weyrmate, that maybe I'm not good enough sometimes."
"He wouldn't have asked you if he agreed with that Kirra." Aletta laid a hand on her friend's arm. "As for not impressing. She just hasn't gotten here yet. Some riders don't impress till they're in their twenties."
Kirra nodded and gave her friend a small smile. "Thanks." She turned back to the straps, "So have you ever had a child?"
Aletta was suprised her friend had asked. "Nope, I take the herbs the healers have and Farsith and I go between a lot so even if I caught pregnant..."
Kirra nodded in understanding. She sat for a few moments mulling over the thoughts in her head. Finally she explained herself, "I was just wondering because I have been thinking about the fact that I might get pregnant, and what it would do to my chances as a candidate, and how it would affect my relationship with Z'al."
"Do you want the herbs? If you ask a healer, I'm sure she'll give them too you. To tell you the truth, I don't know of any candidate that's impressed while pregnant, but that doesn't mean it can't happen."
Kirra nodded again in thought, "I think that's what I'll do. I'll make a trip to the infermary tomorow."
"I'm suprised your not all ready taking them." granted it was none of her bussniss but she did think it was a little strange.
Kirra looked away sheepishly, "I guees I was too caught up in everything, what with the hatching and then him asking me I didn't think about it. I've always taken the herbs for the morning after he and I would be together but I guess it just never hit me as something I needed to do until recently."
"Joureyman Corait." she said. "He's the one I go too. He's a midwife so I always tell him I'd rather not be under his care, nice as he is."
"He?" Kirra hadn't really thought that male healers would choose to specialize in midwifery. It seemed odd, though she guessed it could work.
"He, would make a wonderful greenrider." Aletta replied. "But he chose healing instead. I've heard quite a few greenriders swear by him."
Kirra nodded her head, impressed. "That's who I'll go to then." She worked some more on the straps. "How are things going between you and that harper?"
Aletta goaned, loud enough that Farsith turned her head. "We're not. He came to show me his gitar. Not a problem, the problem was that L'pin had just left my weyr.
Kirra winced at the visual, "Ooo, ouch..." she patted her friend on the shoulder. "How are you planning on making it up to him?"
"How should I know? He's so weird. He said he couldn't be around me when I'm diffrent and I haven't the slighest idea what that means."
"Maybe he means when you're so obviously a rider, and not just yourself."
Kirra offered.
Aletta sighed, "But being a rider is who I am."
Kirra nodded and shrugged in understanding, "So maybe what you need to do is help him understand and accept that." "Mabye you could talk to him?"
"Me? Why me? I don't even know him?" "Your one of my only friends who isn't a dragonrider. I know M'tias talked too him but I'm not sure it did any good.."
Kirra sighed, she hated getting in the middle of such things, "I guess I could...do you want me to say anything specific?" She wondered how she would beable to find the harper in the first place. "What would be a good thing to say to someone who walks in after a flight?" Aletta asked with a sigh, if she'd known he was going to go nuts, she'd have never opened her door.
"I don't know...I guess I'll think of something to say to him...I don't know if it wil help but I'll try, I promise." She squeezed her friend's hand reassuring her. "Thank you. I know I've made a mess of things but.."
Kirra looked at her friend quizzically, "But what?"
"I care about him Kirra."
Kirra put her arm around her friend, "I'll do what I can, I promise."
