Description: Having classes together is an unpleasant experience.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 9 of Turn 11
Notes: Mentioned: R'lor
Saedyna walked into the large Weyrlings' classroom with Avarith close behind. C'pier was already there and her eyes narrowed. She chose a desk as far away from him as she could get. At first she'd positioned herself where she could see him because it made her more nervous to have C'pier behind her. But now she simply picked a spot that would be far away from him, stubbornly challenging herself to be less afraid. It wasn't like he was going to attack her in the middle of class.
}:Of course he would never hurt you again,:{ Avarith insisted. }:I would bite him first.:{ Then the green thought a moment. }:Yuliuth is nice though.:{
Through Ç'pier, Yuliuth noted Saedyna's posture, her reaction to his rider. He wanted to be able to convince her that she did not need to be afraid of him, but it was surely an insurmountable wall. As Ç'pier said, he could never un-attack her.
**Yuli, would you please tell Avarith that I'm willing to leave until more of the class arrives?**
}:Avarith,:{ said the brown. }:Would your rider prefer for Ç'pier to leave the room until more of your classmates arrive? He will leave, if she wishes it.:{
The green passed along the information and after a moment she told Yuliuth, }:Mine says being in class is your rider's punishment, not hers.:{ Avarith didn't really understand why Yuliuth was there when he wasn't their clutchmate, but it had been emphasized to her that he was _not_ weyrlingstaff like the other adult dragons.
Saedyna felt itchy knowing C'pier was watching her. R'lor had warned her that C'pier would be in the next class and she'd told him she understood, but Saedyna thought she _couldn't_ Impress so it would never be a problem. But here she was, having to see him all day, every day. At least he wasn't staying in the barracks.
When Yuliuth relayed the response, Ç'pier snorted a brief laugh. Though he was quick to give up on accommodating Saedyna, Yuliuth was not ready to stop trying just yet.
}:You should not have to be near us. We would leave you alone if we could.:{
}:I know our riders are upset but _I_ like you.:{ Avarith swished her tail and settled down next to her rider.
The class filled up and Saedyna felt a little better with more people between her and C'pier but she still had a hard time focusing on what the Weyrlingmaster was saying. The man who'd tried to kill her was _in her class_ and it was so ironic that it was as a punishment _for_ attacking her. She had to find a way to deal with this or _she_ was going to be held back.
}:Ç'pier is not upset,:{ said Yuliuth. }:Not angry, anyway. Nevertheless, I am full glad you and I can be friendly.:{
The class was almost over when Avarith asked, }:Why did yours hurt mine? Saedyna tried to explain but I don't understand.:{
}:He thought he had to, to save his boy,:{ said Yuliuth. }:He sees now that he was wrong, and he is serving a punishment as reparation.:{
}:Oh.:{ Avarith didn't understand why someone would have to hurt one person to save another. }:Is it boring for you to be in class with us?:{
}:I enjoy being with you all,:{ said Yuliuth. }:My class was... lonely.:{ Even lonelier than this one.
}:Oh, that's very sad. But I'm glad you like us!:{
}:You are all already very dear to me, yes,:{ said Yuliuth. }:I fear to say so, though, because we are difficult to trust.:{
}:I trust you. You're nice.:{ Avarith thought a moment. }:But I don't trust your rider. He hurt mine.:{ She would definitely bite C'pier if he tried to hurt her rider again, even if it hurt Yuliuth's feelings.
}:That is why we offered to leave until the others arrived,:{ Yuliuth explained. }:She should not have to worry about whether she trusts us.:{
The class ended and several Weyrlings popped out of their seats, eager to leave. Saedyna ran a hand along Avarith's head and scratched her eyeridge. **You didn't fall asleep this time.**
}:I was talking to Yuliuth.:{
Saedyna froze and couldn't help glancing over at C'pier. **Why?**
}:He is nice. I don't think he'd let his rider hurt you again.:{
She didn't want to be upset at her dragon so she went back to scratching her eyeridge. **You'll keep me safe.** It was easier to be brave with a dragon.
Ç'pier quickly withdrew from the classroom, hoping to avoid anyone having to be alone with him. He needed to speak to R'lor, anyhow.
}:You may speak with me any time you like,:{ said Yuliuth to Avarith. }:We are explicitly not on staff, of course. But I have done these things already. So if you need any help, you can ask me directly, and I will leave Ç'pier out of it.:{
}:Okay.:{ Then Saedyna got up and Avarith was immediately distracted by the prospect of playing with her rider.
