Talwynn spotted Birigundi in the Dining Caverns and smiled. "Biri!" she called, carrying her cup of klah over. "How are you doing?" She hadn't seen him in forever.
"Well," he grinned as he scooted over to make room for her. "And you?
How are you and your green beauty doing?"
"We're well." Talwynn smiled fondly, thinking of Riveth. "Seniors, now!
I can't believe it. It seems like time has just flown by..." She shook her head. "What have you been up to?"
He shrugged. "Not much, really. Just spending time with Nialyn. Did you hear I'm going to be a father?"
Talwynn set down her drink and hugged him. "Congratulations!" she cried.
"I'd heard rumors, but I didn't want to pry, because we all know how Weyr gossip can be. That's awesome, though."
"Thanks!" He hugged her back, glad at least _one_ of his friends sounded excited for him. "Yeah, I can't wait! She's already starting to show. It's coming in the first month of the new turn, so it won't be long now."
"Oh, that's wonderful." Talwynn said with a grin. "You're going to be there, of course, right? How involved are you going to be? I have to admit if you had asked me, I couldn't picture you as a father, but you seem like you're looking forward to it."
"I want to be there for _all_ of it. I mean it's my baby too, right?"
he said with a shrug of his shoulders. "I might not be weyrmated to their mother or anything like that, but that doesn't mean I can't be just a big a part of their life."
Talwynn nodded. "If I have children...I'll have to foster them now, I suppose." she said aloud, thinking. "But...I'd want to be involved, too." She looked at him. "So, I hear you've also been less common with the ladies lately."
"Well, I've been a little busy," he said selfconscously. She wasn't the first to have mentioned something about that. "And I'm trying to be a bit less obvious about it. It kind of bothers Nia when she gets her mood swings. But I'm not tied down in any way, she knows that," he reassured her quickly.
"Hey, hey, is it sensitive?" Talwynn asked. "'cause I didn't mean to bring up anything painful. Actually..." and now, she blushed... "Well, now that I'm a senior, I've been told I need to get experience. And it started me thinking... But yes, she would object, wouldn't she?" She felt silly now.
"You're a senior, you need some experience and you were thinking we could finish what we started before you Impressed?" Birigundi asked gently. He knew how she had been with those first tentative kisses out under the stars. She wouldn't be the first girl he helped with that sort of thing. "She and I both agreed that neither one of us are bound to the other. Its just when her hormones go a little crazy that she cares. If we're discrete about it, I doubt she would even know. And I'm sure you'd rather we were."
"Well..." Now Talwynn was blushing rather fiercely, and was very very glad that Riveth was asleep- while she _was_ a senior now... well, the green had always seemed uncomfortable with her rider feeling that way.
"Yes, I was hoping you could help me with experience." she admitted.
"And I'd prefer it to be discreet...but I also don't want to upset her any."
Birigundi leaned in closer to whisper reassuringly, since obviously this was a conversation she didn't want to be overheard. "It won't hurt her, Talwynn. That's why you waited. She's old enough now to handle the emotions, even enjoy them along with you."
Talwynn nodded. "She is old enough, all of my instructors tell me that.
I just..." She shook her head and laughed. "I'm nervous about this." She paused and eyed him. "Silly question to ask, maybe- but did you ever feel nervous, back when you weren't as experienced as you are now?"
"Oh shards, of course!" he chuckled. "I was as scared as a bug in a spinner's web. Its only natural to be nervous."
She grinned slightly, relieved somewhat. "Hey, you never know, there might be _some_ people who were never scared at all. Of course, something else probably killed them, then." If Biri had been scared...well, he was right, it was natural! And she did need to do this. For Riveth's sake. "Out of curiosity," she said lightly, "been helping any other new senior weyrlings out, when you're not with Nialyn?"
"Not with your _particular_ circumstances, but I did help a new senior weyrling celebrate her... freedom," Birigundi grinned.
She laughed. "I'm sure some of my fellows have been celebrating a _lot_." she muttered, rolling her eyes. "Honestly, if they're that bad now, seeing how they are on graduation's going to be crazy." She knew some had already talked about all the drinking they planned. In fact, she knew one bluerider who had some plans to sleep with half the greenriders in the weyrling class graduation night. He'd propositioned her, but she'd rejected him. "I think they forget just because we have licence to experiment doesn't mean we can do everything we want. Or everyone." she added snarkily.
"Your bluerider friend will soon find most of the greens will be meeting their very friendly new wingmates on graduation day," Birigundi chuckled. "But I think graduating to Senior Weyrling is much more...
anticipated. Its the feast after the famine, if you will."
"I'm sure when you Impress, you're going to have a great amount of fun waiting, aren't you?" She eyed him curiously. "You are going to stand again when Mnaiath rises and clutches, right?"
"Of course," he nodded. Just because he hadn't Impressed yet didn't mean he never would, after all. "My dragon just hasn't been Clutched yet. He will be, though. I just have to be patient."
She grinned. "Good. I'd hate to think that your lovely green would miss out on you."
"Oh, ha ha," the candidate replied with mock sarcasm. "If I'm gonna help you with this little problem of yours I'd better at _least_ Impress a _blue_, though that seems rather unlikely too."
"Ah, but all the male greenriders would be _so_ delighted!" She laughed wickedly. "Of course, no matter if you Impressed a bronze or a blue, they'd be insisting their greens get flown by you anyway. But could you really disappoint so many willing bedmates?" she asked in mock horror.
"I _never_ disappoint _my_ bedmates," Birigundi said with a suggested wiggle of his eyebrows. "And speaking of which," he leaned forward and whispered softly, "When?"
"Oh, I'm sure you don't." She swallowed nervously before reminding herself this was for Riveth. Why shouldn't she enjoy herself? And she trusted Biri... "When are you free?" she replied, her tone low as well.
She licked her lips once to wet them as she waited for his reply.
"Tonight. Tomorrow. I can make time whenever you like. But if you're feeling nervous, perhaps the sooner the better. Get it out of the way so you're not thinking about it so much."
She nodded. "I'm free tonight, of course." she replied, then looked around. "My weyr isn't crowded, unless you can think of a better place?"
"Well, you're weyr should be big enough for your dragon and the two of us," Birigundi grinned.
"Sounds perfect to me, then." Talwynn smiled, feeling more relaxed.
Plus, she could keep an eye on Riveth that way, though she doubted the green would be upset. Maybe a bit curious, but not upset. She could be curious at the most awkward moments... thinking about it made her chuckle slightly. "Tonight will be fine."
