Wrapped up in the Vineyard

Writers: Elaine
Date Posted: 29th May 2006

Characters: Berjahir
Description: An outing in the vineyard goes even more disastrously then expected
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 11, day 2 of Turn 3

"Ok Gentlemen!" Berjahir said addressing the apprentices with him in the Vineyards. "You should all be quite familiar with this place, even our newest apprentices. You all have fun playing in the mud?" He said, dipping his hands in the rich soil, trying to be humorous. Some of the apprentices laughed, weakly but most rolled their eyes waiting for Berjahir to finish talking. "I sincerely hope none of you accidentally weeded our vines.
That's an excellent way to spend some more time with me." He paused to let that thought sink in as he turned and continued down one of the rows. "As you can see here, the vines are just starting to flower. The next few months are going to be quite exciting. Flowers will eventually give way to grape laden vines and you all will be helping with nurturing our livelihood here. After we're done we'll review the work groups and schedules."

"Lets move along," he said turning again and leading the column of youths behind him. "Now over here we-" Berjahir was interrupted by the ground tremor beneath him. He tried desperately to keep his balance, trying to turn to see what was happening to his students. Alas it was a futile effort and soon Berjahir's feet were thrown out from under him and he fell.
"Shells!!!" he shouted his leg feeling as if it had twisted at an impossible angle. "Ohh no!!" he roared, seeing earth falling and covering the further off fields. Berjahir watched in horror as the fields were quickly ruined.
**Please, don't come this far** he thought, realizing he couldn't get up.
"Run! .. RUN!" He began to yell, hoping the apprentices with him could get themselves up. He began crawling away desperately hoping the mounds of earth would not reach them.

Finally the ground stopped moving. Berjahir tried to get to his knees, but that still wasn't working. **Something's certainly broken,** he thought, turning completely around, trying to survey the results of whatever just happened. He felt so helpless, he could barely move, and it looked like some of his students were in worse shape.

"Could someone please go get help?" He barked, hoping someone, anyone was able to respond. A few of the apprentices managed there way up, but too many were moaning or still stuck on the ground. "Go!" He yelled, seeing the apprentices hesitate. They were apparently torn, wishing them could help.
"There's not enough of you, go get more help. Or, how about you two come pick me up, carry me around and I'll find someone myself!" With that, they left, heading towards the main hall. Berjahir fell back wincing hoping the others couldn't see him. He just hopped the hall was in better shape then they were.
