"So what do you think?" Ciara asked softly, gently brushing her nose against K'sedel's shoulder as she shifted into a more comfortable position on his bed.
"I like," he began, turning to look at the greenrider beside him. "I like Delcira."
Her eyes glinted. "If it's a girl?"
"Or perhaps Ciredel for a boy." He smiled at her, "You must have thought of some names yourself."
She shrugged a slender shoulder. "Perhaps...but I like yours better,"
Ciara grinned, white teeth flashing in the dark.
"You can tell me," he said shifting to put an arm round her and the growing bulge of their child.
"Mmm..." She snuggled against him. "For a girl...I was thinking of Kiara, maybe. Or Sedra. Radel, for a boy..."
"Radel," he repeated. "I quite like that, or even Radela for a girl."
"Radela's pretty..." Ciara tilted her head until she could see his face.
"And Radel would be a strong name for a boy, easy to elide if he were to Impress."
"I think our child will Impress, K'sedel, whether it's a girl or a boy."
Her arm slipped around him, her expression growing playfully sly. "If we have a son, he could even grow up to be Weyrleader like his papa."
"A girl could become a Weyrwoman," he teased. But then his voice and words grew more serious. "I just want our child to be happy, healthy and know that he or she is loved."
"I don't think we'll need to worry about that," she murmured with another, softer smile.
"No, we won't."
"Mmm." Ciara gazed up at the ceiling. "Cirina's excited about having a new sibling."
"And your boy?" K'sedel couln't remember the lad's name, only that he had chosen to craft rather than aim for the sands like so many of his peers.
"He's looking forward to it too," she smiled. "He wants this baby to be a boy, and Cirina wants a girl." Grinning now, she shook her head, brushing her red hair from her eyes. "If it's one thing I can count on, it's those two disagreeing on just about everything."
If only K'sedel's children were as excited about the idea. Apart from the fact that his eldest was actually older than Ciara herself, they were all seemingly of the opinion that they should be concentrating on their own families, not preparing for the arrival of a new sibling. But those were thoughts to keep to himself.
"That's children for you," he said after a moment. "If they agree on something, it generally means trouble."
She laughed. "You're right."
"There's plenty of time yet."
"For?"
"Them all to gang up on us and cause havoc."
Ciara gave an elegant snort. "But if we do, I think we can take them."
Her lips drifted over his skin. "What do you think?"
"We're more than a match for them," he replied, moving so that his lips could find hers.
