Location: Dragonsfall Weyr

Sebeth watched as the green yawned and stretched. She wasn't Rising, not yet, but there was a subtle gleam to her hide. Tomorrow, maybe. That wasn't the reason for his interest, though. When she flew off toward the feeding pens, he swooped in and claimed her spot. The sun was better here.
As he settled himself comfortably, he turned over a few thoughts. He should not bother their leader, but curiosity got the better of him. }:I hope I am not interrupting anything, Aluneth, but I have a question.:{
Absently surveying his Weyr from his own lofty, sunny spot, Aluneth replied, }: Ask. :{
}:Do you really not chase greens?:{
}: No, :{ Aluneth answered. Then, assuming what would be the next question from Sebeth, he continued with, }: For many reasons. Most of them stemming from my rider's sexual preference. While I could chase greens with male riders, he has...requested...that I keep his sexual preference unknown because he worries that it will hinder our progression. He does not wish to inhibit me during a gold flight. At least, that is what I can glean from his mind regarding it. :{
There was a grumble and then the bronze dragon admitted, }: Also, green dragons are far more...agile...than I. They are a challenge to catch. :{ And not nearly as satisfying a challenge as catching a gold. Gold flights were a matter of stamina, green flights were a matter of nimble speed.
}:Bronzes chase greens with male riders all the time,:{ Sebeth pointed out. }:And their riders do not like men. So yours does not like women. It does not matter either way.:{ Then his tone turned amused. }:Bronzes are slow. You must be very crafty, or convince a green to choose you.:{
Aluneth did not particularly like taking advice from any dragon, especially a chromatic, but because Sebeth was of growing importance to him, he let the blue speak. }: And you would know how to do both of these things, I assume, :{ he replied dryly.
}:Oh yes. I catch many greens.:{ Sebeth was usually respectful of bronzes but he couldn't help the smugness in is tone. Then an idea struck him. }:I can help you!:{ He should be happy not to have competition from a powerful, handsome bronze but he felt sorry that Aluenth had only ever caught _one_ female!
The bronze arched his neck, his tone somewhere between skeptical and offended. }: And just how do you intend to do that? :{
}:I will teach you how to flirt with greens!:{ Sebeth said happily. Then he hesitated. Bronzes were proud, and he didn't want to offend the leader. }:Surely it will not take much, when they see how strong and handsome you are.:{
Aluneth made a gruff sound of annoyance. }: And if I still decide not to catch greens, regardless of my rider's request? :{ he countered.
Sebeth blinked. }:Why would you not want to catch greens? Mating feels so good. You feel good when our riders mate, yes?:{
The leading bronze grunted, unable to deny that. }: Yes. :{
}:Catching a green is even better. It is like when you won the Queen.:{ Sebeth reconsidered. }:Or, well. Close to that. I do not know how it feels to mate a gold. But greens are very nice.:{
Aluneth disagreed greatly on this. Catching a gold was an achievement, a source of great pride. Its reward -- aside from sexual union -- was a clutch, progeny, a lineage. Catching a green was a... Aluneth sought for the right word. A quickie. Fleeting satisfaction at best. And green dragons were known for being flighty, shallow, uninteresting. Most of them anyway.
But Aluneth, now having tasted sex, could not disagree that it had felt good. Perhaps...one or two other times in between would not be...unfeasible. If I'serin was amenable, of course. Plus, he doubted that Sebeth was going to let the topic go any time soon.
Aluneth let out a soft suffering sigh. }: Enlighten me, Sebeth. How would you advise that I go about...flirting, as you call it? :{ Perhaps, if nothing else, he could use the information gleaned on Chioneth.
The blue perked up. }:You should say nice things to them. Tell them they are pretty, that they fly well. If they are smart, compliment them on that. Cuddling with them is good. And show off for them!:{ Sebeth sent an image of Aluenth stretching his wings wide, hide glinting in the sun.
The last one was new to the bronze. Bronzes really only ever performed for a gold _during_ the flight, not before. The other things that Sebeth list were things that he already did with Chioneth, though he could continue all of them so that she did not forget how satisfactory a mate he was. }: And these things you do...this gives you an advantage during a gol -- green flight? :{
}:Yes! Not always, some greens are very picky.:{ Sebeth caught the little slip and his tail flicked as he said slyly, }:Maybe you would have caught a gold sooner if you had practice. Greens are good practice.:{ Then, even more slyly, }:And if you lose, yours can come to mine, and K'mai can make us all feel good.:{ Sharing pleasure with his rider wasn't as intense as catching or chasing, but it had the great benefit of making Sebeth feel good with no effort at all.
Aluneth did not like the statement that he would have caught a gold sooner if he had more practice on greens. He mantled his wings, offended. }: I do not need any more practice, :{ he stated flatly. }: I caught Chioneth just fine. I will do it again. :{
But Sebeth's words _had_ planted a little seed of concern within Aluneth. He would have to defend his place at Chioneth's side again and again. He should stay in top shape for that -- _and_ woo her into choosing him again.
The bronze rustled his wings. He had his work cut out for him until then. But he was not about to let Sebeth know his thoughts.
}:We do drills to prepare for Fall,:{ Sebeth said mildly. }:How is this different?:{
Aluneth grunted. He could not argue with _that_ logic.
}:Find a green that you like, and I will help you flirt with her.:{ Sebeth curled a little tighter. }:After I have a nap.:{
Aluneth's silence was his assent. But inwardly, he hoped that the blue would forget this whole conversation.
