After a couple of days of grey skies and freezing rain, the Weyr was finally graced with a perfect autumn day. The air was crisp, but not icy, the sort of weather that made everything feel fresh and alive. The sun, finally unobscured, bathed Dragonsfall in warm, golden light. The Weyr was naturally alive with activity, everyone was outside enjoying the last of the season’s good weather-- everyone except the weyrlingmasters and their human pupils, who were shut up in the classroom today.

Galgaith waited out in the weyrbowl, sprawled in the sun with a few of her clutchmates, her tail lashing with agitation. She was bored, she was restless, and above all, she was envious.

The skies were full today. Dragons of all colors had taken to the air and were wheeling lazily through the open sky, their wings cutting elegant arcs through the brilliant blue.

Flying looked _fun_.

And then it occurred to her. Why shouldn’t _she_ fly? She was strong. Everyone always said how strong she was! And she had been practicing her wing exercises as long as she could remember. Absolutely forever. She was _ready_. And wouldn’t it be a wonderful surprise for Sybana, who always worried about them falling behind or coming up short? Wouldn’t she be so proud if she came out of lessons and saw Galgaith soaring beautifully through the sky like the other dragons?

Her mind was made up. She leapt up abruptly and stomped her feet to get the attention of her clutchmates. }:Come. We shall have some fun too.:{

With the certainty of a queen, Galgaith turned set off in a determined trot toward the cliffs, expecting the rest to follow.

Zollarth craned his neck one way, and then the other, looking around to make sure no one was watching. It wasn’t that they were doing anything _bad_, he just wanted to make sure no one would be watching if he decided he _did_ want to do something he was (probably) not supposed to do.

Which was everything, apparently. Ugh.

He slunk up beside Galgaith. }:What fun do you mean? We should go to the pens and run along the fence chasing the animals. They’re so stupid when they run.:{

}:We’re going to do something even better,:{ Galgaith promised with mystery and pleasure. }:Something _new_.:{

}:We shall do whatever our Queen demands of us,:{ said Adamanth, chest puffed out. He strode regally into her presence. He was not interested in… fun. But he was obligated to do what his Queen wished of him.

Norrianth had assumed what his rider and the Weyrlingmasters had dubbed 'the carcass position' -- which was flopped down on one side, legs splayed and wings out, snoring contentedly with his mouth half-open. Galgiath's ground-thundering stomps snapped him awake. His curiosity piqued, he scrambled to his feet and chased after them, almost barreling into some unlucky weyrfolk whose path was obstructed by an impromptu weyrling crossing.

Kiziolth hesitated. At first she was nearly at Galgiath's heels, but the thought of Nosarre finding her missing or _worse_, doing something she shouldn't be doing, made her tummy hurt. But Nosarre was trying to pay attention and didn't want any disturbances, which this would surely be. She wiggled a little in her indecision, looking between the direction of the young riders and at Galgiath's troupe before finally making a decision, taking off after them in a clumsy lope.

}: Wait for me! :{

}:Where are we going?:{ Respellath pounced half-heartedly at the edge of Kiziolth’s tail and missed by half a talon.

}: On an adventure, it seems, :{ Saoirth answered. She arched her neck, took a curious step forward, but did not follow without more information about what was happening.

Respellath didn’t have the same level of forethought and immediately hurried after Galgiath. }:Yay!:{

Alzaryth hugged the ground while the larger dragonets tramped past him, limbs tucked, a pallid iridescent yellow for eyes. M'rhas barely responded to his successive prompting, leaving his head to swing this way after the gallivanting clutchmates, and that way, toward the direction of the classrooms. And worst of all he’d have to _choose_ - it was far too exposed to stay here out in the open now.

Kyllavath felt great hesitation. A part of him wanted to do whatever the great and hulking Galgaith told him to do, but the other part also wanted to stay exactly where his rider had left him. Perhaps someone _should_ accompany the rest to try and dissuade them from doing anything rash, he thought… But was he _that_ dragon? Fear of missing out finally had the brown following the rest of the pack. A’ris would understand, he thought.

}: Adventure! :{ Roeth echoed eagerly as he hop-waddled after Galgaith.

Jenith, however, seemed to take a bit more direction from Alzaryth and Saoirth. }: I think I will just watch from here, :{ he decided. He went to sit near Alzaryth, offering quiet support to his blue brother.

}: What are we doing? Will it be fun?:{ Paskith asked, perking up and prancing after the rest of his class, hurrying to catch up to the stomping Galgaith. }:Come on, brothers, sisters!:{

Orysteth sat watching his siblings hurry off one by one, trying to decide if he should go, too. This all carried the unsettling air of a mistake. They _did_ seem excited, though… so why not? He trotted along towards the back of the line, pausing only to regard Alzaryth, Saoirth, and Jenith. }:Little clutchmates,:{ he encouraged the hesitant trio, }:Don’t be left behind! I think it is better to regret taking a chance than it is to remain behind and wonder what might have been. If you don’t wish to participate once we arrive, no one will force you.:{

Galgaith led with a steady, determined pace, taking the dragonets across the bowl and up the rise by the watchtower. }:This is a surprise for our people,:{ she confided in her clutchmates as they went, excitement and surety thrumming through her mindvoice. }:They do not know what we are doing, but they will be _very_ proud when they see us.{

Adamanth did not rush or hurry, exactly, but he moved _with a purpose_ to take up a position just behind and to Galgaith’s right as she led the group to her destination. Once again, he had little worry whether his rider was proud of him. Rather, he simply just assumed he was and behaved accordingly. What rider was not proud of his dragon -- especially his _bronze_ dragon -- as a matter of course?

But once again, this was what Galgaith wished of them. So he would execute her wishes.
