E'kirim slid an arm casually across S'yen's shoulders as he regarded
the group, grinning. "Serious or funny? I like the ring of Weyrling
Wonders, myself, but I ain't against being on Team 'We'll Sharding
Push You'."

“How ‘bout, ‘It’s Too Fecking Early and Cold for This,’” suggested
Halia as she crossed her arms, tucking her fingers under her armpits.

Zaphare snorted. “I was gonna suggest ‘Fist to the Fecking Face’.” She
gave a quick jab to demonstrate. “You have to do the motion when you
say it though.”

S’yen rolled his eyes but didn’t shrug E’kirim off. “It doesn’t
sharding matter. Just pick a stupid name and let’s get this shitshow
on the road.”

A’ris, who had been listening intently, not only to his teammates, but
to all of the Weyrlings’ dragons as well, suddenly contributed to the
conversation with, “What about Daddies’ Favorites?” He couldn’t even
get the entire name out without cracking a smile and tilting his head
toward K’yne and M’thos.

Zaphare didn’t quite manage to bite back a snort of laughter. “We
should, just so they have to say it. If we have to have team names,
_surely_ that means they’re gonna say them out loud at least some,
right?”

E'kirim stared at A'ris a moment, completely caught off guard, before
barking out a laugh. "Done." His hand shot up to alert the
Weyrlingmasters that they were ready.

K’yne called to the teams, “When I point at your team, everyone shout
out your team name!” Why the Weyrlingmaster’s Third was so invested in
this, no one would ever know.

He pointed to the first team.

“Threadnoughts!” C’uren shouted brightly.

M'rhas funneled his hands around his mouth and bellowed, “Threadnoughts!”

“Threadnoughts!” A’ten bounced on his toes and waved his arms with far
too much excitement for that time in the morning.

Nosarre rolled her eyes and remained silent.

Sybana similarly left the uncouth shouting to the boys.

“Now _that_ is a team name,” K’yne said to M’thos as he jotted it down
on his clipboard.

"I don't know what they're trying to shout." M'thos admitted with a shrug.

Everyone’s attention turned toward Team Two.

“Skyguard!” Katora proclaimed with quiet pride in her voice.
Somewhere, Saoirth bugled in agreement.

L’kayric brought his fist to his chest, thumping himself right over
the heart proudly. “Skyguard!”

Z’renh, too, proudly proclaimed, “Skyguard!”

Sanvi yawned. Skyguard was a better name than Threadnoughts, in her opinion.

“Skyguard, how heroic.” K’yne’s face, again, said he was enjoying this
_too_ much.

S’yen exhaled dramatically. E'kirim, still with an arm across S'yen's
shoulders, hollered loud enough for them both without a thought for
how close he was to the bluerider's ears.

A’ris’ face was uncharacteristically bright as he enthusiastically
joined his teammates in a unison roar.

As Zaphare joined them in the shout of “Daddies’ Favorites” (this
really was shaping up to be a lot more fun than she expected), she
waggled her eyebrows suggestively at the Weyrlingmasters collectively.

K’yne’s lips flattened at that last team name, his eyebrows becoming a
straight line on top of his eyes.

"Well, I don't like that." M'thos muttered, low enough just for the
weyrlingmasters to hear.

“In retrospect, maybe we should have reconsidered putting those
particular weyrlings together,” T’lonas replied, eyebrows raised and
honestly not entirely sure how to respond to it.

Now that all of the team names were established, the Weyrlings were
herded over to the first area on the practice field.

“Your first challenge is a firestone relay toss,” K’yne told them.
“Weyrlingmaster M’thos will stand at the finish line and award the
winning team 10 points. Second place receives 5, and last place
receives _nothing_.” He clapped his hands. “Okay, teams, take your
places down your lines. On the count of three I’ll blow this whistle,”
Weyrling groans could be heard, “and you’ll begin.”

Well, if they _had_ to do this, Sybana was going to do her best. “I
should be first on our side. I’m not great at throwing, but I’m worse
at catching. Hopefully this way I’ll only set us back once or twice.”
She looked to her teammates for any objections, not particularly
abashed by this admission. She wasn’t _supposed_ to be strong, as far
as she was concerned, just strong enough to take care of Galgaith and
maybe lug a flamethrower. Catching bags of rocks was _their_ job.

“I’ll go last!” C’uren offered. He flexed a bicep to show how strong he was.

“Nosarre, maybe you should go after Sybana. That way if we have to
keep starting over it won't be from all the way at the end.” M'rhas
reasoned mildly.

"Pound sand." Nosarre said. "Weakest should go on the ends, since they
_should_ only need to catch or throw once. Surely those muscles aren't
just for show, C'uren."

“I can go in the middle.” A’ten figured that was a good spot - the
first two were bound to have the most throws, but the last two would
be under more pressure not to drop the sack.

“Alright, A'ten.” The bluerider smiled brightly. Thank Faranth some of
them were good sports. Then, as if Nosarre simply hadn't heard
properly, M'rhas said, “First and last are claimed. So, you can take
after Sybana or before C'uren.”

"I'll go before C'uren, then. Someone else will need to toss all the
bags back to Sybana." Nosarre said.

“Fine.” M'rhas made an exasperated gesture, but, glad they'd come to
an agreement of sorts, wasn't about to think too much about the
logistics of their order. “So, it's Sybana, me, A'ten, Nosarre, and
C'uren.”
