Description: Dalbek cames to see Aishara while Aivorn keeps a scowling eye on them.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 12, day 5 of Turn 3
"This evening would be more pleasant if he didn't look like a storm cloud," Aishara whispered to their drudge, Heludia, and nodded towards her father, who sat in his favourite chair, looking like...well, the mentioned storm cloud. They were waiting for Dalbek. "This isn't easy for him, to accept that you're a grown woman," Heludia answered. She was in rather bad middle-position between the father and daughter. The journeyman took a deep breath as he stood outside the Master Beastcrafter's door. He knew Aivorn wasn't too pleased with his request, but shards he had wanted to just _talk_ to Aishara for so long... He raised his hand and tapped on the door, wincing at how loud it sounded. Perhaps his nerves were getting the best of him...
Heludia went to open the door and after escorting the journeyman into the living room, disappeared to the kitchen. "Hi, Dalbek, nice of you to drop by," Aishara greeted bit nervously. "Thank you. I'm glad I could come." He held out a small bouquet of wildflowers. "These are for you. I know they're nothing fancy, but..."
"They beautiful, thank you," Aishara said and blushed a little. He smiled brightly, his heart beating loudly in his chest. "I'm glad you like them, Aishara." Dalbek pulled his eyes away from her and offered the Master a bottle. "And this is for you, sir. Forgive me, I didn't realize there would be a fourth or I would have brought something for you as well," he added with an apologetic smile to Heludia. "Forgive the oversight."
"Don't worry about me," Heludia smiled and brought cups. Such a polite young man. Aivorn just settled to glowering. "Would you take a seat?" Aishara asked. "Ah, yes, thank you," he beamed at her. Shards, but she was even more lovely the more he looked at her. Dalbek pulled the seat out next to his alloted seat. "After you, Aishara."
Aishara took a seat next to him and Heludia took the flowers to put into a vase. Aishara fidgeted little, trying to figure out something to talk about. Her father didn't help, just sitting gloomily there. The tanner cast an eye in Aivorn's direction. He certainly didn't help the young man feel at ease! "So, I believe I've seen you riding on occasion," Dalbek said to break the silence between them.
"I like riding," Aishara said. "I've been riding since I was old enough to sit in a saddle. Hey, would you like to meet my pets? I got canine and two felines. I wasn't allowed to bring the ovine to our house though," Aishara told. She cast a mock pout towards her father. "Ovines are not pets," Aivorn finally opened his mouth. "But the little lambs are so cute, don't you think so, Dalbek?" "Oh. Oh yes, lambs are very cute," he nodded. "Especially the little woolly ones." Oh shards, did he actually just say that?!
Aishara rewarded him with a pretty smile and Aivorn with a scowl. Heludia interrupted them by bringing tray and asking: "Klah or tea?"
"Tea, please," he answered with a small smile and a nod at the woman. "Which do you like, Aishara?"
"Tea. Dad's a klah person." Indeed, the drudge was handing the Master a large klah-mug, about size of a pint.
"So I see," he said with a polite nod to the Master. "And... And you prefer tea, I take it?"
Aishara nodded and handed him a plate: "Cookies?" "Oh yes, thank you." The tanner took one and took a bite. "Delicious,"
he nodded. "Did you bake these?"
"Yes, I did. I can cook and I can bake, but please don't ask me to sew anything!" Aishara laughed.
"All right," he chuckled. If he just kept his eyes on her, and tried to forget her glowering father, perhaps he could relax. "Don't worry, I can sew leather. It can't be _that_ different. The needle still goes up and down, right?"
"Yes, but how do you keep it going straight?" Aishara said. Aivorn frowned. The two of them were getting along uncomfortably well. "Well, I suppose I do have the advantage there. The leather is a bit stiffer than cloth," Dalbek shrugged. "But at least you don't have to punch a hole in the fabric first. Let me tell you, if you had to do that every time you wanted a new outfit it would take you months."
"It already takes me months," Aishara confessed. Mostly it took her so long because she was just not interested, she could always find something else to do.
"I just go to the storerooms or the tailors," the journeyman shrugged. "I can sew a saddle, but I can't sew a pair of pants. Something seems rather wrong there, doesn't it."
"Oh yes, saddles would be much simpler." "Well, actually saddles are rather complex to make because you have to tan the leather, and when you make the saddle you have to take into account what kind of riding they will be used for, the comfort of the rider, the..." The tanner shook his head. "I'm sorry, you probably don't want to hear about that."
"It's kind of interesting, since I don't know nothing about tannercraft. I just know where you get your hides from." "Perhaps sometime you could come down to my workshop and I can show you how I make a saddle?" he asked hopefully.
"That would be interesting," she said and Aivorn almost chocked on his klah.
Dalbek beamed. "I would love to show you. And maybe you can show me some good riding trails? I make the saddles but it seems that I rarely have a chance to try them out. Of course, maybe you could invite your friends along and we can make a picnic of it." He didn't want her to think he was thinking of getting her alone in the woods with less than gentlemanly intent.
"That sounds fun, I know few good picnic places," Aishara said. "YOU better have your friends with you. I don't want you to go riding with young men alone," Aivorn interrupted sternly. "I would truly like to meet your friends, Aishara," the journeyman said, hoping he could lessen the sudden tension in the room.
"Don't worry, dad, I wouldn't do anything you wouldn't do," Aishara said with slightly malicious smile. Now, that was what Aivorn was worried about. He was a weyrbred after all, and before he left the weyr to pursue his career as a beastcrafter...let's just say he wouldn't be surprised if there were few children with his genes he wasn't aware of. The tanner watched the exchange between the daughter and the father. He couldn't help but notice she had a slightly rebellious streak in her. Shards, but she was getting more interesting each passing moment. He did his best to hide the slight smile that turned up the corner of his lips.
