graduation is officially m9 d26 t12 - congratulations! :)
"That time again." M'thos announced unnecessarily as he settled in one of the chairs across from T'lonas' desk, handing out a sheet of hide that listed each Wingleader's top weyrling requests to both T'lonas and K'yne. "There's a little overlap with who wants who this time, but it doesn't look like there's anything major. L'val is down a couple pairs from That Threadfall so he has more names on the list."
T’lonas looked over the requests, humming thoughtfully. “Well, it’s always nice to see what they all think of our weyrlings! There are practical concerns taking precedence of course, but liking a pair both skills and personality-wise is important, too. I do love seeing who prefers whom.” He looked over the lists again. “Well! May as well start with the easy ones, just to pare down the list and get us some momentum. We know where Sybana is going, obviously, and the youngsters! I’m eager to see how A’ten will develop here with us. He relates well to both the weyrbred and holdbred, and I think having a peer like that as a mentor could be valuable to any new weyrlings, or candidates, who are struggling with the transition. And Sybana, ah, lovely girl, taking her duties seriously despite a bit of culture shock. I’m almost sad to be handing her over to Saibra.”
“A’ten’s a nice kid, despite his father,” K’yne said with a little grin.
"And keep an eye on him. He'll do well with his newly-Impressed peers, but older kids might try to push some boundaries." M'thos said, "I'm sure my boy is considering himself lucky to be turning sixteen a few sevendays before graduating. That said, I know there's a deficit of blues in Summit, but I'd rather not have him go from under my watch directly into his father's."
“Hmm.” T’lonas tapped his pen. “Alpine could use another blue. Do you think he’d do alright there, given the… ah, culture? He wouldn’t be alone, of course -- I believe Alpine needs both of our bronzes. Which is for the best for Z’renh, I think -- L’val can at least keep an ear out for any issues with Adamanth. I’m certain that’s one dragon that will want to throw his weight around with his peers as soon as he hits the Wing. I’m a bit less certain about E’kirim. He’ll fit in fine, but perhaps a bit _too_ fine… I worry they might encourage him to remain a bit _too_ laid-back, when I would rather he be motivated to step up. But, as I said, Alpine really does need the bronzes.”
“E’kirim can always spend the next turn in Alpine, getting the experience he needs, and then if he succeeds there, go up to Summit the Turn after. I’m sure M’kayre wouldn’t mind holding the boy’s feet to the flames to make sure he stays motivated.” K’yne looked down at the list. “Speaking of M’kayre, Nosarre would probably go best to Ridge. Give her space from her father.”
"I agree with T'lonas there- putting him in Alpine won't do him any favors, but L'val needs bronzes more than we need to babysit at this stage." M'thos said. "Alpine has some young folks mixed in, so maybe that'll rein M'rhas in a little. Ridge is the best match for Kiziolth, if not Nosarre…perhaps once she gets into the routine she can look at transferring upwards if she feels the need. L'kayric and Rh'din would do well there, too."
T’lonas nodded. “Yes, yes, good calls all around. And for the rest of the browns… both Summit and Ridge could use one, but the question of who goes where. A’ris, I believe, might be best put to use in Summit. He’ll be an asset there. C’uren will certainly make an impression wherever he goes… I think Ridge could use him, and there are enough solid, experienced riders there that they may help sober him a bit without beating all the cheer out of him.”
"That leaves almost everyone else in Summit too, doesn't it?" M'thos asked. "What do you think about putting S'yen and Zaphare in Summit? Do you think they can handle it?"
“Zaphare is solid,” K’yne remarked. “S’yen is a bit whiny, but Summit could use another blue.”
“I think they could both rise to the occasion,” T’lonas decided. “They’ve both got the potential but could use the occasional kick in the pants. Summit won’t give them the chance to become complacent or troublesome. And it looks like Summit could use some greens, too. Halia and Sanvi could do well there, and would be supportive of one another.”
“That probably leaves Katora for Alpine, then?” K’yne suggested, looking at the last name left on the list.
“Yes, and I think that would work well,” T’lonas replied.
Tucking his pencil behind his ear, K’yne looked at T’lonas and M’thos. “Also, fellas, I’d like to tell you personally, before word gets out, that I’ll be returning to the Fighting Wings after graduation. It has been my honor and privilege working with you both, but I’d like to have some more free time in my evenings to spend with my son.”
T’lonas nodded regretfully. “Ahhh, you’ll be sorely missed, K’yne, but I understand. Juggling the work and family is never easy. But if you ever decide you’d like to join us again sometime in the future, you’d be more than welcome!”
"The rope course won't be the same without you." M'thos added with a grin, "But you're always welcome to bring Keriv by, or we can set up a date with him and Tamerel. They're not so far apart in age."
