Not Her Decision. (1/2)

Writers: Roxanne
Date Posted: 15th June 2006

Characters: Knara, Ayrati
Description: Knara comes to see Ayrati and they discuss what to do about Ayrati's pregnancy.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 7 of Turn 3

Ayrati had yet to decide whether or not she wanted to keep the baby she carried. She had told J'nus that she was pregnant and transfered to the queens wing the day after she had found out. She had started drilling with the queen's wing and decided that she really liked the new Weyrwoman. She would be a good match for her father should her dragon decide to let Treadoryth catch her when she rose. She shook her head and made herself concentrate on the problem that she faced. The decision really wasn't a hard one as she had no idea who the father could be, so she felt that it was best to simply end the pregnancy. She had enough children already and didn't need nor want to spend more time in the Queen's wing simply to produce another mouth to feed. She loved the children that she had, but they had all been concieved before she had ever thought about becoming a dragonrider. They were her only reminder of the life she had led before returning to the weyr and Impressing Kaezioluth.

However, she couldn't gather up the courage to go /between/ with Kaezioluth and simply rid herself of the problem. She had already been /between/ a few times since she realized that she was pregnant but she hadn't stayed long enough to abort the baby. She was hoping that those trips would be enough to miscarry so she wouldn't consciously have to make the decision to end it. She could simply let what might happen happen and then she wouldn't have to feel so bad at wanting to end the pregnancy.

}:We could go right now, if you wanted to. I can tell Hydrazineth that we are too busy for her rider to come by right now. She just asked me what we were doing :{ Kaezioluth suggested trying to be helpful. She didn't like her rider to be sad or whatever she was feeling at the moment.

The mention of her younger sister wanting to come by cheered her up a bit. They had the normal sibling rivarly at times, but she knew that Knara was always there for her when she needed her to be. *No, tell her to send Knara on over. I need her advice on this.** she replied knowing her sister would be able to help her.

}:Done.:{ the green replied as she lay on her ledge watching the dragons as they came and went.

Knara knocked on the door to Ayrati's weyr. She was suprised that her sister had decided to go through with the pregnancy. She would have thought that Ayrati was no longer interested in having children and was taking herbs to prevent such occurances from happening.

Ayrati answered the door and ushered her sister inside. She had always envied her sister's stature and independent spirit. She just knew that Knara would become a wingthird someday at a different Weyr just to prove that she could do it without having anyone thinking that she used her father's rank to get that position. However, she was content as a wingrider in the weyr of her birth. She had left the Weyr once and that hadn't turned out very well. She had five wonderful children, but the memories of the horrors she survived still haunted her at times. Perhaps that was why she didn't care to visit her children as much, too many memories. "How's your day going?" she asked as they situated themselved at the small table she had.

"Fine. I brought some fruit juice with me, do you want some?" Knara replied pouring herself a glass from the basket that she had brought with her. She had thought that they could talk over wine, but then remembered that it wasn't good for the baby.

"I'm not thirsty, but perhaps later. Did you need to talk about something?"

"No, but I am suprised that you're not ending the pregnancy." Knara replied never really one to be candid when speaking to family members. She seemed to have more tact with strangers than with her own family. She knew her family would understand whereas a stranger might misinterpret what she meant.
