Without a second thought Kamira dropped the bridle in her hands and ran for the candidate barracks. The dragons had started humming. The Hatching had begun.
With a little less grace than she was comfortable with, she and a few fellow candidates shed their day clothes for their robes and pulled on their thickest soled boots. When she finally made it onto the sands, Kamira could see that she was one of the last to join the group, but none of the dragons had yet made their way into the world; all around her were familiar faces with even more familiar expressions - eager, but fearful, anticipation. She only knew because she had worn the same expression for turns at dozens of Hatchings. But before Kamira had adjusted to the shock of the heat of the Sands and the excitement running wild, a beautifully jeweled green emerged from her shell and chose a lifemate. From then on it seemed that dragonettes were choosing their riders all around her for candlemarks - all except one, _the_ one. The golden queen had yet to choose her partner and the Hatching seemed to be coming to an end.
Then all at once, the molted shell that had captured her attention from the first split and Kamira caught her first glimpse of a golden wingtip; but, just as quickly, Kamira caught a glimpse of Teseada's face.
She was positively glowing with pride. The queen had chosen her.
Kamira sighed and bit her lip a little. No one was more deserving of such a dragon than Teseada was, but that didn't stop Kamira from feeling a little disappointed. Luckily, however, the feeling didn't last long. The newest goldrider and her dragon had barely stumbled from the sands when Kamira's breath caught in her chest.
** Kamira, my name is Tayanth. Will you feed me now?**
Kamira felt the same glow come over her that she had seen on so many of her peers' faces. It had finally happened. Kamira had Impressed her own emerald beauty.
