N'kevyn

N’kevyn was standing in the doorway, watching the two snoozing dragons that more than filled the ground level ledge outside when Aydhan joined him. The snoring and occasional groaning was a soothing backdrop to his thoughts.

“You know. I think she might be bigger around than Avicath right now. Do we still have that measuring tape from the time I thought it was a good idea to hand make a set of straps?” It had been a disaster of an experiment, and Avicath had threatened to eat the messy abomination N’kevyn had managed to create at his first attempt. “I want to wake them up and see.”

"Don't you dare wake her up, she has been uncomfortable and complaining all day." Aydhan protested. Dingus chirruped in agreement, though he didn't know what they were talking about. "And she is not nearly as big as Avicath. He's taller than her, and rounder. The bulk of him would still look bigger than she is."

“Revenge for the stitches incident,” N’kevyn countered, though he didn't actually make any effort to wake either dragon. “He’s still taller sure, but I’m not sure she isn't rounder.”

Hooking his arm around her waist, he pulled her close next to him, pointing. “Look though. She's shoved him mostly out of the wallow and when she takes a deep breath, her side is almost as high as his.”

"I told her she can shove him clean out of the weyr for doing this to her." Aydhan said fondly. She leaned back into his solid frame, resting her head against his chest. "At least she'll snap back once all those eggs are out. How many eggs do you think this is? Certainly more than Imbeth's twenty-nine."

“Surely at least thirty-five,” N’kevyn guessed. A bit of redemption for the Weyr after that anticlimactic twenty-nine. "Hopefully a blue for Aydhara. She might explode if she waits much longer.” He draped his arms around her, tucking her close. “Tym may have waited longer than we’d like, but it will be a good clutch, I’m sure.”

"Tym waited as long as I needed." Aydhan said. "Thiseta can have it. It's good to know that I can do it, if another Weyr loses a Senior Queen and we want to make that move again, but it's been nice to take a breather. And besides, can you imagine Q'vettan as my Weyrleader? The two of you would be ridiculous."

“I would move anywhere for you,” N’kevyn said seriously, “but I do hate the packing.” His arms tightened around her to the point of discomfort, and there was an annoyed rumble to his voice when he said, “I’d probably punch the man if I had to see his face that often. Don’t do that to me.”

"Wouldn't have much choice in the matter, remember." Aydhan said. "Though maybe I should try and nudge her that way, if Tzenketh chases next time. Jealousy is a rare treat from you."

“Aydhan, my love, it's not always about you,” N'kevyn teased. “I just really hate him. It's why you won't catch me trying to get Thiseta to dance. Better to avoid the drama. Neither of us would win, and he might break my nose in the fist fight.”

"Why can't it always be about me?" Aydhan complained, though she was still smiling, "Besides, he's far too dignified to break your nose. The only reason he hasn't sent you to some backwater watchdragon position is because you'd enjoy the vacation too much. If you get him mad the worst he'll do is promote you to Wingleader."

“Because our weyr isn’t big enough for your ego to be as big as Avicath’s.” N’kevyn kissed the top of Aydhan’s head affectionately. “You’re right, a nice relaxing watch post for a few weeks would be fun, so he definitely won’t do it. I don’t think he can make me be a Wingleader. I’d just hand the knots over to the ‘second.”

"Hand them over to K'ran." Aydhan suggested. "Glad you have a plan. Now, let's leave them alone. Have you been privy to any of the betting pools? Surely there's at least one. Color distribution, who's going to Impress. Give me the details."

“Oh, wouldn’t that be fun? I wish. Well, I put a mark on our daughter of course, but the current bets seem pretty varied…”
