I'serin

K'mai sat on his couch with I'serin's head in his lap, fingers running idly through the bronzerider's hair. "I've been thinking . . . maybe we could have dinner with M'thos and T'mhas?" By the way the bronzerider imperceptibly stilled, maybe he had suggested the wrong thing.

I'serin tilted his chin so that he could look up at K'mai. "I..." he started to answer but swallowed nervously. Part of him was not against the idea at all. But a majority of him was still nervous about others _knowing_. Even just allowing himself an hour to relax on K'mai's couch while the bluerider played with his hair (which he found he enjoyed immensely) had taken him a minute to get over. "What brought this idea to mind?" he asked.

"I've been thinking about it for a while. We could be open about our relationship with them, and you could trust that they wouldn't tell anyone. Shards, they were so quiet about being together _I_ missed it." K'mai traced his fingers along I'serin's jaw. "I don't want to push you too much, but I think having another couple to talk to would be nice for both of us."

I'serin's gaze shifted away as his mind turned over the proposition. He had enjoyed his dinner with T'mhas and M'thos. They did indeed seem trustworthy. And having another couple to talk to, someone like them, let a small spark of hope flicker within I'serin. That perhaps he could also enjoy the simple, romantic things that he had watched others enjoy for so long.

}: He is right, :{ Aluneth commented, }: It would be a good idea. :{

"I believe that seals it," I'serin remarked quietly.

"What?" K'mai asked gently.

I'serin looked up again. "Aluneth states that you are right and agrees that it would be a good idea. Though it...scares me a little. Still. That is something that I will need to overcome."

"Aluneth agrees with me a lot, doesn't he?" K'mai smiled, then his voice grew gentle and warm. "You're being so brave."

The bronzerider shifted to a sitting position and kissed K'mai's cheek. "He agrees with you when you are right," he restated but there was a smile pulling at the left side of his mouth. He leaned against the back of the couch, one hand propped up his head, as the other twined shy fingers with K'mai. "I...do not know how to ask another couple to dinner," he admitted.

"I can ask." Excitement bubbled inside K'mai. Finally being able to _talk_ to someone about their relationship, to be honest about his feelings . . ."I hope you're ready for me to gush about how wonderful you are and how much I love you."

"Please do not," I'serin said with wincing closed eyes. He rubbed his face, exhaling. Panic gibbered at the edges of his mind over the thought of K'mai talking to T'mhas and M'thos but he had to go through with this. "Be...gentle, please? I will do my best not to dash out of the weyr in panic."

K'mai cupped I'serin's face. "You deserve to have me say sweet things about you in front of other people."

"Why does the thought of that frighten me?" I'serin asked rhetorically as he leaned in to kiss K'mai.

But K'mai treated it as a serious question. "Because you're used to judgment instead of praise." He stroked I'serin's cheek, heart breaking for how little love the man had been shown until now.

I'serin leaned his forehead against K'mai's. "Why you love me remains a mystery but I will take it," he murmured. He kissed K'mai's jaw tenderly as he pulled the bluerider close. With an exhalation that was a mix of resignation and contentment, he added, "Two nights hence? I believe that is my next availability. Their weyr, preferably." If they came to his, I'serin would spend far too much time being a nervous wreck, wondering if everything was set up properly or who might be watching visitors coming and going. He was really going to have to let that go.

"They have kids," K'mai said. "Would my weyr be okay?"

"I do not mind the kids," I'serin said. Honestly, he sort of liked them. It made him wonder what it would be like to be a parent, or at least an involved uncle figure. "But if you prefer your weyr, that can work as well."

"I was thinking you might not want to be open in front of the kids. Not yet, at least. You're worried enough about just telling M'thos and T'mhas," K'mai said. "_Can_ I tell them, when I'm arranging dinner? If you want to tell them yourself, that's fine, I just thought it might take some of the pressure off." And it might be awkward to set up what was clearly a couples' dinner if he couldn't be straightforward about it.

Indecision paralyzed him. I'serin had not quite envisioned _how_ he would tell others when it was not because of a crisis or while in therapy. "I...would like to tell them," he answered slowly, as though piecing together his response carefully. "Though you can...um...well, I suppose you can give them a...uh...heads up on what to expect."

K'mai frowned thoughtfully. "What does that mean? I can tell them you . . . have a personal announcement or something?"

I'serin canted his head to the side thoughtfully. "Perhaps that you have someone important to you that you want them to meet?" he suggested, though his tone sounded unsure. He had not meant to be confusing but he was still trying to navigate his feelings.

K'mai's expression brightened and he chuckled. "So you're going to be a surprise?"

The bronzerider's expression shifted to one of amused confusion. "I suppose that I am."

Brushing a finger along I'serin's jaw, K'mai said, "You definitely surprise me all the time." Then he leaned in for a warm kiss. "I can set it up."

I'serin relished that kiss. "Do not give me time to overthink it, please."

"I'm going to go pounce on M'thos as soon as you leave." K'mai laughed. He was practically vibrating with excitement at the thought of having dinner with another couple.

"Of course you will," I'serin remarked with fond dryness as he kissed the underside of K'mai's jaw. He rose from his seat. "I should ready for my next meeting."

K'mai stood and kissed him on the lips. "I'll let you know what he says."
