Description: O'rosin and Cirina have craft time together
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 12 of Turn 12

O'rosin nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard the whoosh of wings out on the ledge, bad enough that he dislodged the shell he was carefully holding in place until the glue hardened. He scrambled for the now half-empty jar of shells his sister had carefully collected, nearly upending it and scattering the carefully separated piles of coloured shells on the small table.
}: It's me! :{ Aeoluth called back hurriedly, }: I left. I'll be right back. :{ An image of Dolphin Cove Weyr from above flashed across O'rosin's eyes, focusing just so to pinpoint the small redheaded figure waving him down.
Oh. Cirina, of course. It was like the brown had a second sense for when she wanted him. Still, O'rosin rose and met them when Aeoluth landed back on the ledge, shifting awkwardly out of the way when O'rosin demanded he stretch his wings out to test the strain on his muscles. They'd only been cleared to fly on light duties for about a sevenday now, though Aeoluth struggled to remember what that meant.
}: My wings feel fine. :{ The brown complained, though he did the stretches as he was told until O'rosin was satisfied. A little tightness across his back, but no pain.
"Was I supposed to come get you? I'm sorry, I must've lost track of time."
Cirina watched the little stretching display, brow furrowing, “If I were sensitive, I’d think you were calling me fat. Aeoluth, was I too heavy, you poor boy?” She scratched him affectionately under his chin. “Not really, I just didn’t want to be bored in the barracks tonight. They brought in a couple new candidates who are still in that wide eyed confused stage, you know. What are you doing?”
Aeoluth blew hot air on her face. }: She's not! Tell her.:{
"He's offended on your behalf." O'rosin said. "He's supposed to be careful in the air, and you know he's not that on his own. I can't be back in the dragon infirmary again." Aeoluth whined in agreement but also in protest as he settled back down.
“Oh, well it was just a quick lift up here. I figured since you were cleared it was alright, but I’m sorry I didn’t ask,” her tone was sincere, though she also made more affectionate baby noises towards the brown. “He’s just such a good elevator.”
}: And I'm supposed to practice!:{ Aeoluth agreed at O'rosin, though he rumbled at Cirina to encourage the scratchies.
"It's all right. I heard him taking off and I thought he was going to go roughhouse. You aren't the problem." O'rosin said. "I'm working on a turn's end present for R'fayne, so I panicked at hearing wings at the ledge."
“Present? What kind of present, show me!” She abandoned the scratching to turn towards the weyr.
"It's called a sailor's token." O'rosin explained as he waved her inside and showed her the mess of shells, glue, and partially completed product. There were two octagonal boxes, just too big to be held in hand. A small hinge and clasp were set to the side, not yet attached to either piece. The shells already adhered to one started to show a simplistic compass rose in varying shades of light blue. "There's some gather stalls at Topaz Seahold that sell them, but I wanted to try and make one myself."
“Oh, that's pretty. What's it for? Does it hold something?” She leaned closer to inspect it, but didn't touch. “Did you go shell gathering without me? You know I love that,” she held up one arm and jangled her shell and bead bracelet in demonstration.
"No, it's just for looking at." O'rosin said, "I'll add the hinge and clasp later so it can be closed and put away, but it's meant to sorta prop itself up. I've been paying my little sister in candies to collect them for me. I have a lot, if you'd like to make another bracelet or something. Just don't tell R'fayne."
“I’ll try to keep it a secret during our next hair braiding and gossip session,” Cirina said seriously. “R'fayne and I talk so often, it'll be so hard…. Oh, let me see your shells. Did you tell your sister what it was for?”
"Don't act like you two aren't in cahoots." O'rosin said just as seriously. He slid the jar over to her and reached for the glue for himself. "No. I said her that if she kept quiet about it, she could also hide that she was getting candy."
Cirina dumped a pile of shells out and started sorting them by shape and color in a fashion that surely made sense to her. “Oh, so you made it a secret? Everyone’s going to know about it by your next visit. Little sisters are terrible secret keepers,” she warned.
"They are good candies." O'rosin said, "Though yes, I'm sure she told my brothers."
“So, does this mean you and R’fayne are serious?” Cirina waggled her eyebrows at him suggestively, “Because you aren’t supposed to weyrmate the first boy you kiss. There are so many out there.”
The look he gave her was bordering on panicked before he realized she was teasing. "My brothers just know that there's a guy, that's all." O'rosin said slowly, "We are serious though. I don't know what the big deal is; if I'd been back home I would be married before doing…anything."
“How’d they take that? You hear horror stories about how people react to those kinds of things outside of the Weyr. It’s why I’d hate to actually have to go on circuit. Was your family alright about it?” Cirina started arranging some of the shells by size in a circular pattern, wishing she had some of her jewelry making tools.
"My brothers took it really well." O'rosin admitted. "I don't know who else they told. Or even if she told them. Turns out I wasn't being very sneaky about it. I'm just…not going to look directly at it. Nobody has talked about visiting the Weyr yet, and R'fayne hasn't brought up going with me. Why cause unnecessary drama?"
“You should bring them to the Weyr some time though. It’d be fun to meet them. You could show them the Dolphin Hall. I have some friends at the Hall, I’m sure I could get your sister introduced to some of the pod. Everyone loves dolphins.”
"That would fall under 'unnecessary drama'." O'rosin reiterated with a shake of his head. "Short dragonrides on Aeoluth are good enough. Nothing high up, no /between/, and especially not having to explain weyrfolk or introduce them to anyone. I mentioned you once and I think my mother planned our wedding. My brothers might think differently about me if they're actually faced with a man and not just the general idea of one."
“Well I’m delightful. Of course your mother wishes you were going to Weyrmate me,” Cirina said with no trace of humbleness at all. “Fine, but what if one of them wants to come to the weyr? Or the Dolphin Hall. That’s a little safer.”
"I'll cross that bridge when I get to it." O'rosin said, "The Dolphin Hall would be a good option, though. Overwhelming but not like I've dropped them on the moon. All it takes is one warm day or the wrong person in the dining hall. I can't lose my family over that."
“Well, let me know if you want me to get you in touch with some of my ‘hall friends. I could also bribe your sister to find me shells. One can never have too much jewelry, and it’d be cheaper than beads.”
"Take mine. At this point she almost needs a storm to blow through and churn up more from the sea bed." O'rosin said. "Oriene transferred out, didn't she? Who else do you know out there?"
“Yeah, Oriene. She’s an apprentice now. Well, still, but now it’s the main thing. But Chalzie is a journeyman, and they let me steal lunch from there when I’m down doing my own shell picking, so some of them know me by name. Besides, it can’t be much different than dragonriders. They love introducing their partners.”
"We'll call that Plan Maybe, then." O'rosin said.
