Description: Cirina gets her wish, with a slight twist
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 13, day 20 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned- O’rosin. Also a bunch of nameless people Cirina shoved through
It had been a long day and Cirina couldn't help yawning as she sat in the stands, eyes fixed on Aydhara. She'd arrived that afternoon at Aydhara's invitation, fully expecting a reasonably timed hatching and associated feast, not to be lazing about all day and into the evening. At least tomorrow was a rest day- she could have O'rosin pick her up in the morning and spend the entire day snoring on his couch (he'd already been informed of that plan). The excitement in the air was helping to keep her awake, but not enough- until she saw a little blue form picking its way towards her friend. Leaning forward, she watched excitedly as the rather drab colored little hatchling inspected Aydhara. Surely, surely this was- And then his brother appeared and knocked the poor little thing right off his feet. She felt bad for the first blue, but that didn't stop her from absolutely shrieking with delight when the second blue headbutted Aydhara hard enough to knock her back a step. From the elated look on her face, Cirina knew her friend had finally gotten her wish, and the thrill was enough to send all thoughts of sleep out of her mind.
As Aydhara led her dragon from the Sands, Cirina found her eyes drifting back to the first blue, hoping he would find a rider among the candidates left, even if he seemed to have been beaten off from his first choice.
Cirina’s heart stopped as the dull little blue reached the edge of the sands. She shouldn’t hope- there were hundreds of people in this crowd, the odds that a dragon- a blue- was looking for her were so small. He hadn’t even inspected most of the candidates; his rider could be in the Sands behind him and he just hadn’t noticed. In fact, one or two of them seemed to have that same idea, cautiously creeping up behind the hatchling.
But she did hope, holding her breath as the blue scanned the crowds, the pressure growing as seconds passed. He seemed to be getting frustrated, stomping his little feet, though he still hadn’t bothered to look back towards any of the other candidates. And then-
If it had been out loud, Cirina would have described that first, }:There you are!:{ as deafening, though it quieted as he continued, becoming warm and soft and comforting. Digger squawked and took flight as Cirina scrambled to her feet, starting to push her way through the crowd. She stepped on someone as she shoved her way through but didn’t even glance over her shoulder as she muttered, “Sorry, sorry, excuse me!”
}:I’m Saejith, and I’m very hungry. And my leg hurts. And I’m itchy. And sticky.:{ Every word made Cirina push through the crowd faster.
The final jump towards the Sands was made awkward by her dress, and she landed on her hands and knees on the hot sand, feeling it bite into her palms. It didn’t matter, though, because the blue- Saejith- was suddenly there, looking down at her with calmly whirling eyes. }:Now your leg hurts too.:{ He sounded more amused than chiding. }:Can we go? I’m very hungry. And my leg,:{ he lifted it to show her the trickle of ichor.
The cut was small, barely bleeding, but Cirina tsked sympathetically, “Oh, you poor baby. Of course.” Not caring that her dress was being ruined by the ichor or the egg goop, Cirina bent to pick up the little blue, stumbling under the weight but keeping her feet through sheer stubbornness as she carried the dragon- HER dragon- off the Sands.
Content now that they were moving, Saejith draped his head over her shoulder and let himself be carried towards the feeding area. }:Hello Digger,:{ he addressed the little brown swooping curiously around them. }:I’m Saejith. You’re going to have to share, but we’re going to be best friends.:{ Later, the ramifications of this would sink in, but for the moment, there was no room for anything but joy as Cirina left the Sands.
