I'lek woke early on the restday and immediately pushed back the covers, a giddy sense of anticipation fizzing through his body. Dawn light was creeping across the floor of his high cliff weyr, warming the smooth rock underfoot, and the air tasted clean and fresh, promising another glorious day at Dolphin Cove.
Tomorrow it would be his birthday, and he eagerly anticipated the celebrations with his wingmates and friends. But before then, his Lirioth was going to rise, and he could tell that it was going to be today. She had been flirting and showing off even more than usual, dipping in and out of the lake as he bathed her with a flourish of wings and tail and insisting on being oiled to perfection. Now she was deeply asleep, as if gathering her energy, but there was a shimmer to her pale hide that owed nothing to the sunlight.
"Thank you for not rising _on_ my birthday," he murmured, touching her gently. Her hide felt hotter than usual, as if she'd been bathing in the full sun. I'lek wondered who she would choose this time.
For some reason he couldn't explain, he had a good feeling.
He thought he still had a few hours before she woke, so he caught a lift down with a weyrling and headed out for a run before the heat got too intense, circling the Weyrbowl and then out following the coast path above the beach. There were a few other riders out, some jogging as well, others out for an early swim, and he eyed them covertly as they passed, taking in bare chests and muscular arms. Would one of them be the one?
After bathing, he headed straight for the dining cavern for a light breakfast, to keep his strength up. As he ate, he felt Lirioth stirring, slowly rising towards consciousness, and so he finished in good time, enough that when he finally felt her uncoil and emerge onto her ledge, he was already on his way to the feeding grounds. Then she screamed, and he felt a rush of lust and hunger and wild energy as she arrowed down from the heights, claws outstretched to sink into her kill. It was time!
Tr'vel wasn't far behind him, sighing as Eboroth announced his intent to chase -- loudly. His bugle echoed off the volcanic rock of the Weyr, his red eye fixed on the pale green. Well, a flight with I'lek wouldn't be so bad, Tr'vel thought as Lightning Wing's teasing comments followed him out of the dining cavern.
Calaroth uncurled himself on the Heights and tilted his head left and right as he considered Lirioth. }:Yes, I will chase her.:{ The blue stretched his wings as he waited for her to take to the skies.
Nearby, Marlath spared a brief glance for his clutchmate as he crouched, ready to take to the air after the pretty green. }: You may chase, but I will catch, :{ the brown promised confidently.
N'vanik was . . . busy, and so he didn't immediately realize that the surge in lust was coming from Loseth. }:Mine!:{ The bronze's insistent voice cut through everything.
**What . . . ? You have Warroth right there!**
}:I will have Lirioth!:{ Loseth roared.
N'vanik swore colorfully and apologized to Talryne and Z'kim as he scrambled out of bed.
Lirioth ripped into the dead herdbeast with claws and teeth, the hot metallic taste of blood filling her with coiled energy, ready to send her arrowing into the skies. Coyly, she watched the gathering males, some watching her intently from the ground, others poised on the heights. They were a promising group. Eboroth, her wingmate, was handsome and known for his agility and charm. The young blue, Calaroth, had a growing reputation and was very popular among the greens of the Weyr, and Marlath was a fine-looking dragon, sturdy and strong, whose wings she'd like to shelter under. Further along the heights, a bronze turned his head to look down at her, his wings furled, still undecided. Would Isarth chase? He no longer had a Wing, but had more than enough notoriety for his flight to intrigue her... And did she know that roar?
Loseth! A gleeful thrill rippled through Lirioth that was more than echoed by her rider. The Weyrleader's bronze would chase! But she wouldn't be caught so easily. She hardly noticed as Isarth snorted and pointedly closed his eyes, resting his head on his forelegs. With a ripple of her throat she sucked the last of the blood, then leapt into the air, first speeding landward to avoid the dragons following her from the cliffs, then spiralling upwards, buoyed by the warm air currents above the Weyr.
}:Choose me. I will fly you well, Lirioth!:{ There was no hesitation in Calaroth now as he twisted and turned to follow the swift green.
}:Twine with me, Lirioth.:{ Eboroth had a slight disadvantage with only one eye, but he'd learned to compensate by turning his whole head if he needed to see on his blind side. }:I will take you to the heights of pleasure.:{ His voice was low and warm.
Loseth was primal when he chased and had little use for words. He projected his desire, his strength, his need to Lirioth. In this moment, all he wanted was the little green that darted ahead of him.
Marlath, too, was focused on following Lirioth's winding path through the skies as she showed off her agility and skill, diving and dancing in the air, eluding her pursuers with ease. Her wings caught a current that seemed to be taking them in a wide curve along the coast, but then she made a sharp turn, sending them scrambling as she soared out over the glittering waves.
Lirioth rolled in the air, for sheer exuberant joy and for a quick glimpse at who remained. A handful of blues, a couple of browns - and Loseth was still there, not to be shaken off by such a trick. She sensed their desire for her like waves of heat, the voices calling her name, but there was still strength enough in her wings to play. She swung seductively close to Marlath, then away again...nearly overflying into Eboroth, who'd moved up faster than she'd thought; she barely slipped out of his grasp. Calaroth was close behind and had flown well. Should she choose the clever blue?
She was tempted, but before she did... when else would she get the chance to taunt the Weyr's senior bronze? Slyly, she wandered into Loseth's path, pretending to slow in exhaustion, then sped away with a cheeky flick of her tail. She felt the response and cried out in delight with herself. Could she resist doing it again?
Eboroth growled in frustration. He'd been so close! With strong beats of his wings, he caught up to Lirioth again. }:You tease!:{ His voice was a caress. }:It will be all the sweeter when I catch you.:{
Calaroth followed easily, amused as the green evaded Eboroth and teased Loseth. }:That was clever, lovely Lirioth.:{
}:Mine.:{ The word was filled with possessiveness as Loseth cut through the sky, flying as fast as he could. He made Lirioth feel his lust, a wordless promise of how good their mating would be. Her tiring had been a feint, but she _would_ tire soon, or make a mistake, and then he would have her.
Lirioth thrilled to the seductive voices and curved her neck back to cast inviting glances at the blues on her tail. Her wings pushed her higher, soaring towards the sun, and now she began to feel the limits of her strength, and the desire for a mate burning up through her body. Marlath had fallen back, but there was Eboroth, not far behind. His determination was appealing. Just a little further... On her other side she saw Loseth moving up, and the impish spirit in her couldn't resist one last play to tease the big bronze. She swerved to cut across his path and back, with a mocking call to catch her if he could.
Loseth shot forward and seized the flirty little green, quickly twining his neck and tail with hers so there was no chance of escape. }:Mine!:{
On the ground, N'vanik claimed I'lek just as eagerly, lifting the greenrider to pull him into a demanding kiss.
I'lek gasped, echoing Lirioth's cry of surprise and ecstasy as she surrendered to the bronze who'd won her. His arm circled the rider's shoulders as her tail entwined with his, clinging to him as he was carried away, one word murmured against his lips as he echoed what was in her mind. "Yours."
