H'run

H'run

A small hush rippled through the Dining Cavern when H'run stepped in, clad once again in all black. Or maybe he imagined it. He squared his shoulders and fetched a tray of bread and some sort of soup, turned his nose up at dragontails, and defiantly selected a large piece of cake for himself because he certainly deserved it. When he turned to find a seat a couple of his wingmates waved but after spending all afternoon looking at them and their dragons, H'run couldn't imagine anything worse.

Instead he slipped onto a bench near the wall, next to M'til. "My apologies if this seat is already taken. I feel like being a wallflower today," he said with a weak smile.

"That is entirely fine." M'til assured, shifted over slightly and nudged some klah toward him as well. "Though... I have to say I hope I'm adequate company, in that case."

"How so? Are you planning on hosting a party here? If so I can leave..."

"No, no." M'til hastened to reassure. "Nothing like that, I assure you. I meant more that I hoped that you didn’t mind _my_ company."

"Darling, if I did I wouldn't have sat here. Be a dear and pass me a mug for klah, and _please_ tell me that the soup today is passable. Whatever the Kitchens served yesterday was barely fit for an ovine, if you ask me." He shuddered theatrically. "I hate parsnips."

"I prefer roasted tubers and herdbeast over soup." M'til replied, almost primly, before he shook his head. "No, no parsnips in the soup. I think it's wherry?"

H'run wrinkled his nose and pushed the offending bowl away from himself. "Faranth, why me? Wherry is worse than parsnips!"

M'til huffed, and took the bowl for himself. "Suit yourself." He responded idly, though he grabbed the nearest clean mug and held it out to H'run obligingly. "You know, you don't have to eat just soup."

"It feels like a soup day. Sort of dreary and cold." It was the sort of day that he felt like on the inside, and a bowl of soup was sure to be the right thing to chase away the chill. Once again, he was let down.

"There's roast herdbeast?" M'til offered. "Could make a sandwich or something." He offered the container of klah. "Here."

The klah would keep him awake but sleep was elusive these days anyway, so he might as well lean in. H'run poured until the klah was up to the very rim of his mug. "I want... oh, I don't know. Fruit, maybe. Or fish. Herdbeast seems too heavy. Or maybe nothing at all. Do you ever just feel... difficult?"

M'til gestured toward the plate of redfruits nearby with a sort of shrug as he took a moment to gather his thoughts.

"Sometimes I feel... rainy." He offered, after a moment longer.

H'run studiously ignored the redfruit. "Mmm. Not really the same thing. I did like the beach for that, when I was at Dolphin Cove. It's awfully hard to feel rainy when the sun is shining."

"Feeling rainy is perfectly valid." M'til disagreed politely. "It's only rational to not be in the right mood, or the mood everyone thinks you should have, sometimes."

"_Thank_ you. I keep telling people that!" H'run raised his mug in a tiny 'cheers'.

“I'll drink to that.” M'til raised his own mug in response, then drank a big gulp of kaf all at once.

H’run smiled, amused. “I think I chose the exact right place to sit tonight.”
