When he woke that morning, I'lek found the skies above Dolphin Cove were as unsettled as his mood, heavy with dark clouds, and the humid, overheated air crackling with anticipation of the storm to come. All night, he'd drifted in an uneasy half-sleep, dreaming of flight, of darting and diving and evading grasping talons, flashes of his own body naked and writhing, always out of reach. Waking, he was restless still, pacing his weyr while Lirioth slept deeply in her couch, until finally he came out onto the ledge, panting for a breath of air.
Off in the distance, somewhere out over the sea, lightning flickered, and a few breaths later, the thunder rolled in, echoing from the Weyr's cliffs.
Lirioth stirred.
She raised her head, eyes glowing crimson in the gloom. Then, slow and sinuous, she uncoiled herself and emerged from her weyr, surveying the cliffs. The male dragons would be sheltering in their weyrs, but she could sense their interest as they did her unstoppable desire to fly, and soon there would be no doubt.
She raised her head as the first drops of rain began to fall, and screamed her challenge.
N'vanik was less than pleased at the idea of being stuck inside his stuffy office all day, but just as he was settling in, a bolt of lust went through him.
}:Lirioth rises!:{
A grin spread across the Weyrleader's face. **You better catch her,** he half-teased.
Loseth's answer was a mental snort to his rider and a possessive bugle to the other dragons. }:Mine!:{
Well, that would explain why I'lek wasn't at breakfast. Tr'vel sighed at the interruption and set down his mug of klah. Liorith certainly favored early morning flights. And Eboroth certainly favored the green.
}:Lirioth is beautiful, and charming, and very fun,:{ Eboroth said as he hurried outside, heedless of the growing storm.
}:And fast!:{ Lirioth arrowed down towards the feeding pens. She barely gave her rider a moment to dismount before she leapt on one of the smaller beasts and tore at its throat, greedily sucking the hot blood as the rain hissed down around her. To her delight, her suitors were put off neither by the weather, nor the prospect of competing with Loseth. There were bold young browns ready to try their luck alongside the crafty blues, led by the handsome Eboroth, the only one who came near to matching her in agility.
}:Follow me - if you can!:{ With a gleeful, taunting cry, she leapt into the air in a shower of glittering raindrops.
Eboroth was half a dragonlength behind her. }:I can keep up!:{ As they cleared the top of the Weyr, he didn a little spin to show off.
Need burned in Loseth as he carved through the sky, his coppery hide catching glints of the fading light as the clouds thickened. The storm didn't matter, only the tantalizing green ahead of him. The part of him that was N'vanik remembered bodies twining, the rush of pleasure, and Loseth sent those feelings to Lirioth.
She climbed ever higher, twisting and rolling through the kind of dizzying, breakneck chase that only a green could lead. With a flick of her wings she threw herself into a wild spin, as if to mock Eboroth's attempt to impress her, then came out of it into a dive before pulling up and shedding a few younger, less experienced males. Her glowing hide, glistening wet, shone through the sheets of rain as she soared again, ascending towards the towering storm clouds.
A flash of white lit the roiling grey sea far below her. The air fizzed, electric, exciting, and soon after came thunder like the possessive growl of a mate. Lirioth turned her head to look back, her winding path through the sky now taking a seductive turn. How many had followed her this far?
Eboroth was still close, able to keep up with the wily green. The wind and rain made flying more difficult, but the blue was determined to catch her. }:Lirioth, sweet Lirioth! You are worth braving a storm for.:{
Not far behind him was the massive form of Loseth, lust and power radiating from the lead bronze. His rider loved flights, surrendered to the desire and urged Loseth to victory, but the bronze could feel now in their shared mind that N'vanik _wanted_, not just the pleasure of a flight but Lirioth's rider. It gave more strength to his wings as he followed beautiful, clever, flirty Lirioth. One claw flexed as if he could already feel her in his grasp.
On the ground, N'vanik reached toward I'lek, fingers just barely brushing hot skin as the young greenrider came tantalizingly close, then moved away again.
Lirioth began to tease her chasers now, swinging first close to a sturdy brown, then slipping away, lightning-quick, to wander across the path of a young blue, crooning to urge him on. This was more chancy than usual, since the wind was almost too strong for her to fight, her tired wings growing chilled and heavy with rain. Once a gust sent her tumbling, barely escaping the eager grasp of another blue, as far below, I'lek swayed, then recovered...but the thrill of her narrow escape warmed her blood, giving her the energy for a final burst of speed.
Distant lights flickered as she rose into the clouds, and the thunder boomed again, closer now. The mists swirled around her, and as she prepared for one last trick to fool her pursuers, she failed to see the dark shape moving up towards her, readying himself for her move. Folding her wings, she dived.
And Loseth was there. He grabbed her tight in his claws, wrapping his body around her so she couldn't escape. His bugle of triumph carried over the thunder. The same intense focus he'd used to catch Lirioth was now turned toward pleasuring the green.
N'vanik pulled I'lek into his arms and kissed him hungrily. Loseth's satisfaction and his own burning need pulsed through him and he began roughly stripping off their clothes.
The greenrider threw back his head and gasped, helpless in the intense rush of his dragon's sensations. The other chasers receded, fading from view. He was Lirioth, twining her neck around Loseth's and crying out in ecstasy, and he was I'lek, naked and pressing himself insistently against the bronze's rider, his lips parted and his body craving the mate she'd chosen.
