T'lonas

R'lor took a breath of crisp air as Kularth came out of /between/ above Dragonsfall Weyr and tried to settle his nerves. From what he'd heard, T'lonas was a friendly man and even if he disagreed with what R'lor was proposing it was unlikely he would be dismissive or angry.

**T'lonas is not M'talis,** he told himself, thinking of the Weyrlingmaster he'd served under at Rising Moons.

Kularth called a greeting to Domorth as he spiraled down toward the Dragonsfall Weyrlingmaster's weyr.

}:Greetings, Kularth,:{ Domorth called from the heights. }:My rider is expecting yours. When you've left him, you are welcome to join myself and Cholsinth up here. The sun is warm on this rock.:{

The door to T'lonas's office was open, and -- apparently alerted by Domorth -- T'lonas himself stepped out to greet his visitor in person. "R'lor! It's wonderful to finally meet you! Please, come in -- we were just pouring some tea."

"Fair Skies, Weyrlingmaster T'lonas. My duty to Domorth." R'lor clasped the other man's arm, relaxing a little at the friendly greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well." He followed the bronzerider inside and said hello to Viseya as they stepped into the office.

"I hope this isn't too much of an intrusion," R'lor said. "But with both our weyrs having incidents and changes with wider implications, I wanted to reach out to a bronzerider in the hopes of gaining your support. I'm proposing something rather unconventional."

"I've already filled him in on H'taysh," Viseya said as she handed R'lor a cup of tea before thumping into a seat. "Truthfully, this is an ambush," she said cheerfully and without malice, "Barrier Lake Weyr is already on board with the plan, but your support would help. There's strength in numbers."

"You've both had incidents?" T'lonas asked, taking his seat. "Is the rider at your Weyr also all right, R'lor? Goodness. Honestly, I think we're all lucky that there haven't been more incidents before now. With so many riders going /between/ every day, it would be foolish of us to think that it would never happen again."

"Oh," R'lor said. "Did you hear about Wingleader -- former Wingleader M'gan? He timed it for some reason he won't explain, and came back months later than he intended to. Weyrleader N'vanik is furious and demanded that he tell _all_ the riders what he did. And the Weyrleader now wants me to teach all the weyrlings, including the blue and greenriders, about the dangers of going /between/ times."

"Weyrleader Q'vettan has given the same order," Viseya said, swirling her tea a little before sipping it. "And while I hate it- honestly I was much happier before anyone told me- I think we don't have a choice. The rumors are already starting and it's better to get ahead of the issue than have weyrlings hearing about it in the Dining Hall and testing it."

"If N'vanik is having M'gan tell all the riders, then it's certainly only a matter of time before the weyrlings hear," T'lonas agreed. "It isn't the sort of thing you can put back in the bottle once you let it out. And the young folk are usually the ones most likely to try things for a lark, or on a dare, or just... press their luck, in general. Hrm. Well, really, there's no reason why the blue and greenriders can't know. I understand the caution behind keeping it contained to fewer people, but the color barrier itself is rather arbitrary. Ignorance that their dragon _can_ do it doesn't actually erase the dragon's ability to do so, and accidents know no color." He took a sip of tea, mulling things over for a moment. "Are you proposing this be universal? Not left to each Weyr to decide individually? It would be impossible to contain if it weren't taught across the board anyway, I'd imagine..."

R'lor nodded. "I think we should speak to all the Weyrlingmasters and discuss changing the training to include all weyrlings in the lectures on timing it. As you said, this will be difficult to contain and we should try to make this as orderly as possible. They would need their Weyrleader's approval, of course, but if a majority of us can agree they can use that as leverage." He sighed and wrapped his hands around his tea. "H'taysh stumbled on this by accident, which proves this is a danger every rider should be warned about. And . . . one of my young weyrlingstaff overheard the other riders gossiping about M'gan's incident in the dining cavern. Thank Faranth he came to me first, but if he hadn't . . ."

Viseya nodded, "Hopefully everyone can meet up in a timely manner, if we're hoping to keep this orderly. I think everyone is going to have to go along, whether they like it or not, but if we can convince everyone it's a good idea, it will make things easier. People like change more when they think it was their idea."

"I'll look for a day without Threadfall next month and send out invitations," R'lor said. "I can host the meeting at Dolphin Cove, unless you have objections."

"No objection. I imagine a beautiful setting might help a bit with putting everyone in an agreeable mood," T'lonas said cheerfully. "Is there anything I can do to help between now and then?"

R'lor took a sip of tea as he considered. "If you have any familiarity with some of the other Weyrlingmasters and could guess how they might react, we could prepare ourselves for objections or potential allies. I know M'talis at Rising Moons will be an issue."

Viseya dragged out a notepad and started three columns, yes, no, and unknown. In a joking tone as she started the "no" list with "M'talis", she said, "We could always only invite the yes and maybe Weyrlingmasters. Let's see, T'lonas, do you have a list of all the weyrlingmasters, I'm not sure who is in charge at Far Island these days."

"Not a list, but I can name them if you'd like to write them down," T'lonas replied. "Let's see..."
