It was easy to wait with Shaegerith nearby. Everything seemed easy. He was like a guiding star O’rock could trust no matter what, even if it was cloudy. And it was cloudy. O’rock could have done with a little more sun on a day like this, when he would be in the water, but he had a whole gaggle of cousins and siblings eager to help him wash the blue.
}:Hello,:{ said Shaegerith.
**Hm? Are they here?** O’rock looked up to see a brown and his rider instead of his family. **Oh.**
}:Hello, little one.:{ Teyrabth responded, snorted warm air at him as he touched down. }:I am Teyrabth.:{
“Hey there.” H'kami greeted, dismounted Teyrabth and gave his brown an affectionate shoulder-pat. “You're one of the newer set of Weyrlings, yeah? There's a few of you.”
“Yeah, that's me,” said O’rock. “You related to Timmarock?” Even O’rock did not know all of his more distant cousins. They were as numerous as the grains of sand on the seashore, as they said.
}:I am Shaegerith!:{ the blue introduced himself.
H'kami snorted. “How's that for an introduction?” He quipped. “Relax, I have no idea who Timmarock is. Name's H'kami, and this lug here is Teyrabth.”
}:Indeed.:{ the brown agreed.
H'kami huffed, still amused. “You wouldn't happen to be that spicy blue weyrling, would you?”
“Oh, I'm not so spicy. I was just waiting for a bunch of folks from my family, and I thought you might be with ‘em. Timmarock’s my great granddad, and he has more great grandkids than you can shake a stick at. I’m O’rock, and this is Shaegerith.” O’rock held out a pouch. “Jerky?” he offered.
“Nah.” H'kami grinned at him. “I'm from Dream's End, more or less. Your dragon must be pretty calm, if he's already letting people other than you fuss all over him.” He complimented. “Nice colouration, too.”
“Aw, thanks!” O’rock beamed with pride at his handsome dragon’s impressive demeanor. “It was his idea, really. I told him he just had to let me know if he was getting overwhelmed. I don't really need help washing him or anything, but folks wanted to meet him, so. Not a lot of riders in my family, but there have been a few. Figured if you were one of ours, you might even have been one generation further out, but you never know-- my ma’s probably been sending letters to every living rider our family can claim to brag about Shaegerith.”
“You're the one that's gotta watch for that. Not him.” H'kami advised. “I'm sure your teachers have told you how eager to please baby dragons are, more or less.” He tipped his head, considering. “Make sure you and him get plenty of time just the two of you-- you'll be glad of it, as he gets bigger and you find your time filling up.”
O’rock nodded. That made good sense.
“Yessir, I will,” he said. “Shaegerith is a go with the flow sort, most of the time. I'll do my best to watch out for him a little better.”
