After Nazoth landed, M'sar slid off and patted the brown's massive foreleg. "Not too bad," he told R'zen and Ibranth. The younger pair had been practicing aerial drills with them and Nazoth was pleased to be a leader, even if the only one he was leading was Ibranth.

"Between you and my class training, I'm getting _really_ good." R'zen agreed, and gave him a quick, fierce sort of smirk. "... Maybe next time Ibranth could give lead position a try?"

}:I am getting stronger all the time.:{ Ibranth agreed to both Nazoth and R'zen.

**What do you think?** M'sar asked his dragon.

Nazoth considered it. }:It would be nice to give him a turn,:{ he told his rider. Then to Ibranth, he said, }:You can practice being a leader. It's important if you want to be a Wingthird someday.:{

}:I must keep getting faster, to beat Angualdith.:{ Ibranth agreed. }:And learn well, so Mine and I can lead someday.:{

"We've been up for hours." R'zen countered. "Next time, Ibranth. Rest your wings." He added firmly, when the blue started to spread them. "I'm going to go get some food. C'mon, M'sar. If you want."

The brownrider shrugged. "Sure." He followed R'zen toward the dining cavern.

R'zen veered for the food, heaping his plate with meatrolls and tubers, though at the last-- and only a moment of hesitation-- he grabbed a second smaller plate of spiced fingerroot cake.

"... So." He said, after a long moment.

"So?" M'sar echoed in question as he filled his own plate. "Got something on your mind?"

"... Yeah." R'zen grunted, but didn’t elaborate. At least, not until he'd found a seat at a less occupied table.

And then he took a steadying breath. This was _fine_.

"... How do you flirt?" He said all at once.

M'sar couldn't help it. He laughed. It was adorable, this kid awkwardly asking him how to flirt. Then he turned serious and leaned closer, his eyelids partly lowered and his gaze intense. "Hey handsome. Wanna go for a tumble?" He leaned back with a grin. "Like that."

R'zen frowned in faint displeasure. "I can't just _ask_ someone that!" He protested, scandalized. "Especially not _him_!"

M'sar's eyes lit. "Ohh, you like a guy!"

R'zen's face heated. "Ibranth beat his dragon fair and square!" He flared, which really wasn't the point at all.

"... He said I was _cute_." He muttered finally, reluctantly. "_And_ Ibranth didn't mind his brown."

M'sar finished a bite of his roll around a smile. Blushing and everything! "Brownrider, huh? Was it H'kami?"

"Who's H'kami?" R'zen eyed him. "I don't know anyone with that name." His nose wrinkled, and he took a big bite of his own food.

"Mmm, so there's another one." They were popping up all over the place now. "Is he hot?"

R'zen somehow managed to flush even redder. "What kind of question is _that_?!" He blurted. "I, um... sure? He said I was _cute_." The bluerider repeated. "So I guess he is too."

"I was wondering if I might go talk to him. Show him my flirting skills." M'sar smirked and took a bite of meat.

_Temper_ flared, before R'zen could think twice, and his hand tightened around the meatroll he'd just picked up, half smushing it. Brown eyes narrowed, and the expression that regarded the older rider was suddenly _much_ less friendly.

So _what_ if--

Sure, this was the Weyr and everyone was supposed to like everyone, but couldn't he have a _chance_ before someone else moved in?

In his head, Ibranth huffed, and there was the sense of his blue lashing his tail.

"I'm not telling you his name. Or his brown's name." R'zen said finally, flatly.

Well _that_ was a reaction and it told M'sar a lot. "All right, all right." He waved a hand. "Not one for sharing, are you?" he muttered. Looking at the younger weyrling curiously, he asked. "You really like him, don't you?"

R'zen eyed him a moment longer, and then exhaled, forced himself to drop the smushed meatroll. "... He was... nice to me." He said, half awkward, and scowled at his plate of food.

"Got you all flustered and shy about it," M'sar teased. "So, what did you do when he said you were cute?"

R'zen huffed at him, finally forced himself to relax again. "I... might have snapped that he was cute too." He allowed, still awkward.

"That's a good start . . . wait snapped? Like you're mad that he's cute?" M'sar laughed. Oh, hold boys.

"I thought he was _teasing_!" R'zen protested. "So when he said I was cute I told him the same thing right back. It's not weird!"

M'sar snorted. "So what did you do when you realized he wasn't teasing?"

R'zen's face turned completely red, and his shoulders ducked again. "I... sat next to him." he said, extremely stiffly. "We... held hands."

"Ooh, hand holding." M'sar put his hands under his chin. "Are you sure you're ready to move so fast?"

R'zen's shoulders stayed hunched. "... Ibranth didn't mind his dragon either." He offered up. "... They were both napping in the wallow while I was there."

"Well, well. Invited you up to his weyr, did he? Did you make out yet?" M'sar took a bite of herdbeast.

"... No." R'zen hedged. "I mean... I just had Ibranth ask his dragon where they lived and... went over there."

He couldn't get much redder. "You mean.... _kiss_?!"

M'sar laughed. "Yeah. Kissing is one of the best things to do with cute boys."

R'zen slanted him a sidelong look. "I'm not kissing you." He said flatly. "That'd be _weird_."

Besides, M'sar was cool, but he didn't make R'zen's insides twist like X'rion had.

M'sar made a face. "That _would_ be weird. You're just a kid." Not for the first time, he thought about how much older Farand had been when they were together. Well, M'sar had slept with people a _lot_ older than him since then, but it was really more about how _young_ he'd been at the time.

"I am _not_!" R'zen bristled, a little offended. "Ibranth and me are going straight into the Fighting Wings after graduation, not like that _baby_ A'ten." He added. "I'm gonna outrank him."

For a little bit at least.

"... Anyway, we're friends." R'zen added. "Not that weird snuggly stuff."

"Friends." M'sar scoffed. Then he frowned thoughtfully as he finished a bite. It had been so long since he'd had friends that he could barely remember what it was like. He'd thought Farand had been his friend . . . but there were a few other boys and girls closer to his age that he'd played with. They'd called each other friends -- people he liked to spend time around, to laugh with, to share things with. Maybe . . . "Anyway, I'm saying you should make out with _him_ not me."

"... Maybe I _will_." R'zen muttered, half rebellious. "When I see him again."

"Good." M'sar grinned.
