Birigundi

Birigundi

Birigundi was glad that he had suggested a dip in the Weyrlake. They had so much fun splashing around in the water, Nialyn seemed to have completely forgotten the small rounding of her belly as they walked back up on the sand and toweled themselves off.

"Shall we walk along the lake a way, Nia?" he suggested as he tied the towel around his waist.

After tucking her wet hair behind her ears, she nodded, giving him a bright smile. "Sure." Her whole demeanor seemed to have changed in the span of half a candlemark in the water. Her blue eyes were brightened by the playful splashing, and her smile was bigger, more genuine. And even though her hands and feet were clammy and her limbs were shaking just a little from the exertion, she'd never felt so sharding energized!
Knotting a towel modestly at her hips, suddenly not even caring that it made her rounded stomach much more pronounced, she wound an arm about his waist, gently brushing her cheek against his shoulder.

He wrapped his arm around her, his fingers curling naturally around her side. Kissing the top of her head and whispering suggestions of what they could do together once they had caught their breath later, they easily fell into a lazy stroll down the sandy beach.

One of his suggestions in particular made her blush bright red from her cheeks to the tips of her ears. With huge eyes she turned her head to stare up at him. But she was grinning. "_Biri_!"

"What?" he said giving her an innocent shrug and big pleading eyes.
"It's worth a _try_ at least, right?"

**You had a bath the other day!** Demalia looked up at her green.

}:I need another one now,:{ retorted the dragon with a mental snort.
}:You want me to say please?:{
**Okay, Okay! A bath it is!"

Demalia took a few moments to get changed into older clothes, bathing her green meant she was going to get wet. She picked up the brushes and supplies she used for the green, before slipping the straps on for the short hop down to the weyrlake.

Birigundi looked up as the green came in for a landing on the beach ahead of them. "Oh, hey, Nia, I know that greenrider. That's my friend Demalia. Wanna meet her? She's a good friend and I think you'd like each other."

"Oh...yes, yes. Of course, Biri." Nialyn gave him a smile, but inside, her nerves fluttered.

As they began approaching the green dragon and her rider, she suddenly became acutely aware of her own, rounded stomach and Demalia's slender figure. Wishing that she was wrapped in more than just a towel and a bathing suit top, she tried to push away her insecurities and put on a brave face.

"Demalia!" Birigundi called out to the rider as they approached, a broad smile lighting up his face.

"Biri!" she smiled back at him. Then she noticed the girl with him. She just had to be Nialyn, if nothing else the growing evidence of the child she carried was enough.

"Hey stranger," he grinned as his arm tightened around the girl beside him. "This is Nialyn. Nia, this is my good friend Demalia, and her green Tapheth."

"Well met Nialyn," she said somewhat formally. Shards, that girl seemed so, so young.

"Hello," Nialyn smiled shyly in return, edging a little closer to Birigundi, glad that his arm was still around her. She looked at the younger girl a moment, searching for something in those eyes - but she didn't know what. Unbidden, the thought flitted through her mind: did she sleep with him?

"I've heard a lot about you," said Demalia. "I feel like I know you already."

Nialyn glanced at Biri out of the corner of her eye. How much _did_ she know? "It's nice to meet one of Biri's friends - finally." She made herself grin, her fingers tapping against his waist teasingly.
"Sometimes I wonder why he's so secretive."

"He's not normally." Demalia gave Biri a quick look. Secretive didn't sound like him at all.

"Secretive?" he asked as he looked down at the woman tucked under his arm. "Since when have I been _secretive_?" **Well, besides my birthday party...** "Well, it doesn't matter. I'm show you two off now. The two most important women in my life finally meet - my best friend and the mother of my child to be. No secrets."

Smiling, she leaned up to give him an affectionate peck on the cheek.
"Good," Nialyn murmured, glancing out of the corner of her eye at Demalia. The term "friend" was rather relative in the Weyr... Just how close of a relationship did Biri and the young greenrider share?

"Biri, what are you doing later?" asked Demalia. "I've got to take some messages, and my route takes me past the runner station. Want a ride out there?"

"Really? Sure, I'd love to go," he grinned. "You know Ma would be happy to see you!" Turning to Nia he tried to include her in the conversation. "My Ma _loves_ Demalia. I think she always hoped we'd be weyrmated someday."

Something twisted painfully inside of her at his words, but Nialyn managed to keep what she hoped was a sweet expression on her face.
Forcing a smile, her blue eyes flickered to Demalia. "Oh, really?"

"Ma is lovely, we get on really well." There was no malice in the words, simply a statement of truth. Biri's mother had been very good to Demalia, and the two genuinely got on. "Haven't you met her yet?"

"No." Nialyn inwardly winced at how harsh that sounded. Shards. "No, not yet. I'd like to though..." Shards! She wished she didn't feel so jealous, or so sharding defensive! After all, it wasn't her fault she hadn't met Biri's mother yet...

"Well, you know, we have a little one to protect," Birigundi grinned as he wrapped his arms around her and rubbed Nia's protruding stomach possessively. "Isn't it beautiful, Demalia? That's my little one in there."

"So it is," replied Demalia. At least there was an obvious bump of pregnancy to show for this.

Nialyn eyed the greenrider through demurely downcast lashes, and she couldn't help wondering, again, if she slept with him. Was Demalia jealous? Was that why her reply had seemed so distant? The idea gave her a small sense of obscure satisfaction.

"Hey, I have an idea," Birigundi grinned, having come up with the most brilliant plan. "Demalia, do you think I could convince you to bring Ma out here to the Weyr some restday? So she can meet Nialyn?" And so Ma could see that he really _was_ living up to his duties to her and the baby. "She'd love you, Nia, I just know she would."

"I could do that. if you are sure you want me to Biri. But why don't you ask her yourself, like I said, I have to go past the runner station."

"I'll do that," he grinned. "And maybe all _four_ of us can have dinner. What do you two think? Wouldn't it be great? Maybe a picnic or something?"

"Of course, Biri!" Nialyn smiled, doing her best to look enthusiastic.
She wanted to meet his mother very much--even if the idea _was_ a little...intimidating... But why did the greenrider have to be there?
She wasn't part of the family.

"It'd be good to see Ma again." The greenrider smiled, she had developed quite a soft spot for Biri's mother.

"Perfect," Birigundi grinned. "It's settled then. I'll tell Ma then.
And don't look so nervous," he said kissing Nialyn's neck softly. "Ma is gonna love you."

"Ma is lovely," added Demalia. There was something about winding this girl up, she knew she shouldn't but having something one over her... However petty it was, it made Demalia feel a little better about things, even is she was wishing it was her that Biri was making so happy.
