"I don't think she's slept so long and so deeply since she was just a hatchling," Cinale chuckled, glancing over at Fey who was curled up in the sun on the windowsill. "She's usually such a pest this time of day...begging me for treats...or pestering you for attention."
"Yes, I think so. She must be tired then. I suppose she's been chasing Wort around. She does seem to be fond of him. And look how he watches over her," Daigoro smiled, pointing to the little bronze perched not far from her. He seemed particularly interested in the sleeping green, shining so brilliantly in the sunlight.
"He seems to be fond of her too. And I _know_ she likes him, hon." Cinale picked up on of his wooden nick-nacks and began to polish it off with her rag. "He was the one who's been such an influence on her, after all. Teaching her good manners and playing with her and everything..." The cook glanced at the young green, once again admiring the way her hide shone so brightly in the light, and she smiled when the flit began to stir. "Ah, now she's waking up... It's about time, lovey!"
Fey, however, seemed to take no notice of Cinale's affectionate call. In fact, she seemed to be completely oblivious to everything save the bronze just above her. She stretched out one leg, and then the other, her long tail curling above her wings, her neck arching backwards so she could stare up at Wort.
Then she shrilled.
Daigoro paused, his hand still on the binding of the book he had just placed on his new bookshelf and turned to look over the pair of them. He was beginning to feel rather strong emotions coming from his little lifemate. What was all this about?
Fey sat up on her haunches, wings extended--and she shrilled again. It was a challenge, Cinale realized. A challenge for those who thought themselves worthy to chase. "Daigoro....?" Then the little green launched herself out the open window--Wort arrowing after her.
There was no doubt in her mind now of what was happening--of why she suddenly felt so restless. She turned to look at her fiance. "She's rising."
"Yes," he nodded, reaching down to pull another book from the box, trying to ignore the feelings that were creeping along the back of his mind. Wort and Fey... It would be appropriate. He glanced up once to Cinale's shocked expression, to the slight flush he noticed was beginning to rise in her cheeks, and clearing his throat he turned to set the book on the shelf.
Well, if he was making the effort to ignore it... Taking a deep breath, she slowly let it out as she reached for another thing to dust. Her eyes, however, didn't see it. A small part of her was concentrated on Fey and her emotions--amusement, annoyance, exhileration....lust. She could almost imagine she could feel the wind on her face as she dove and taunted the blue, brown and bronze ones following; her small wings beating against the breeze as she pulled upward to throw them all off... Swallowing thickly, Cinale glanced at Daigoro. Shards, her face must be so red... Had Wort ever flown after a green before? Or even a gold? Had he ever experienced this before?
She longed to reach out and caress him.
Daigoro accidentally caught her eye as he turned towards the box once more. He understood the look. He felt the same. This was her first time feeling it, he knew. Wort had risen to mate many times, so he had become good at ignoring it. But shards it was hard when Cinale was standing there, that longing look in her eyes. He just wanted to touch her, to just trace his fingers along her skin... Shards. He swallowed hard and then concentrated on the books in the box.
Why couldn't they? She could feel Fey's...desire...for the males mounting within. A soft, frustrated sound escaped her before she could quell it, and she braced her hands against the edge of his desk, staring down at the grains of wood, trying her best to count each line and ripple. **We can't do anything rash.... No...** She murmured his name.
The brewer turned to look at her back. Shards, but he liked the way she had just said his name. So soft, and almost... inviting... Why couldn't Fey have waited just one more month? If it were just one month later he could go to her and they could both just allow themselves to feel. He new what she was feeling. The first time it was confusing. The first time, you don't know how to ignore because you don't even know what you are feeling. He knew what she was feeling, and shards he wanted to give her what she wanted...
"Just try not to think about it, Cinale. It will pass soon enough," he said. The advice was supposed to be helpful, but he noticed just how rough his own voice sounded.
Almost in that same moment, Cinale closed her eyes as she felt Fey's sudden triumph in choosing the right mate--the _only_ mate--worthy of her.
She didn't dare turn around to look at Daigoro... Shards...she couldn't even imagine what dragonriders must feel like when their much larger lifemates rose to mate.
It was almost too silent in this room as they rode out the wave, and she couldn't suppress the awkward feeling growing inside of her--the shy embarrassment. Even when her heartbeat began to slow, she couldn't lift her head to look at him.
Daigoro allowed himself the briefest moment of elation as Wort claimed his prize, but he quickly pushed it down. Any other time and he could ignore it. Any other time he could just push those thoughts away. But it was Fey, it was _Cinale_ he was sharing this feelings with, not some faceless, nameless stranger. It was the woman he loved and wanted to claim for himself, same as his bronze had just claimed her green. It was less than a month, but what a hard sharding month it was going to be... waiting.
He put the book down and closed the distance between them. Wrapping his arms around her from behind he softly kissed the skin where her neck and shoulder met. Turning his head, he softly murmured in her ear what he knew they both needed to remember, "Soon."
