T'kala watched his fellow bluerider, wondering who he was thinking about. He'd heard Dag talking to Nidogath but had only heard Dag's half of the conversation. He was tempted to ask but thought it might not be a good idea.
Sh'vair sighed, looking out over the sparking blue ocean... Blue...
K'mai... Blue always made him think of K'mai... and Nidogath too of course. But the way he thought of them were... _very_ different.
Shards, did K'mai even realize the young weyrling would sometimes just sit and think of him? Did K'mai ever think about him too? Probably not. He was so handsome and popular... Another forlorn sigh, and Sh'vair contemplated all the wonderful things that came in blue.
"Sh'vair? Are you all right?" T'kala was getting worried, he liked his clutchmate. He just wasn't sure how _much_ he liked him.
The weyrling blushed slightly. "Oh, yes, yes, I'm just fine T'kala,"
he said almost guiltily. "I was just thinking about... life..."
"Found time to think of something other than Nidogath?" He teased.
"Oh, he's always part of my thinking," Sh'vair smiled. "What brings you outside?"
"The sun, two cloudy days in a row is anough for me." He streached, "Dag wants to swim anyway."
"Oh, well, Nidogath's already out there," the blue's lifemate said, pointed at the little dragonet frolicking in the waves.
Bugeling, the young blue made his way to his clutchmate, splashing in the waves.
"And now he has a playmate," Sh'vair grinned. "They certainly seem to be enjoying themselves, don't they."
"It must be nice, to live the way they do."
"It certainly seems so," his weyrlingmate nodded. "They don't seem to worry about anything, do they."
"Not at this age, thought I expect that thread will be an issue for them when thier older."
"I don't know. I think it will be more an issue for us than for them.
Our instinct is to run away from Thread. Theirs it to rush out to meet it."
"That's what I'm afraid of, Dag seems to think he could take thread on now."
Sh'vair wrinkled his nose. "Well, luckily there are rules about that."
"He says they are human rules."
"It's a good thing we have them. There are too many hot-headed humans who would trust their dragonet's ability too quickly as it is."
"I know that, it's Dag who's the hothead." T'kala smiled fondly.
"Nidogath really isn't. He's a pretty calm fellow, always trying to make everyone happy." They were perfectly suited in that way.
"Clam is good. I wouldn't expect Dag to be so intse, I mean he's got such a short memory. It's like it starts all over agian.
"Well, that's why they have us," Sh'vair smiled.
"Good thing too. Wonder how far I'd get as a tanner if I hadn't impressed."
"You still could, you know. Keep tannering, that is." Sh'vair paused a moment as he wondered if 'tannering' was an actual word... "If you want to, that is."
"Guess I should, it's a usful craft from a dragonrider. My Da made some leather the color of Dag hide for a formal set, when he's done growning."
"You mean for riding straps?"
"Yeah. Said I should have a set that looks as good as he dose."
"Very kind. I like them. I can't wait to see them on him someday,"
Sh'vair smiled as he got to his feet. "Well, I suppose its about time to get back."
"I'd rather not end up with some boring punishment duty for being out too late." T'kala agreed."
"Right," Sh'vair said with a nod and a silent call to Nidogath. "Time to get back to work."
"Have a good evevnig Sh'vair."
