Characters: U'kaiah, Maiz
Description: U'kaiah and his son help Maiz bathe Indyath.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 18 of Turn 3

Kaiafel was through with all this math and grown up talk. He was ready to go to work! "So can I wash your dragon now?"

"Of course! You want to go swimming to do so? Or do you want me to call her in so we can wash her on the beach?"

"Well, Kaiafel isn't supposed to go in the water too far, so perhaps close to shore is best?" U'kaiah suggested.

Indyath obliged, leaving her next brown friend to wade into the shallow water where she was in easy reach.

}:You know, I just had a bath,:{ she commented.

**I know that, but I just couldn't say no to him.
Kaiafel is so cute and so enthusiastic! Would you really deny him?:**

}:No. But still.:{ "What's her name?" Kaiafel asked as he grabbed Maiz's hand to pull her down the shore down to where her dragon was waiting.

"Indyath. She's very excited to have someone new to come admire her. She loves baths."

"Every dragon loves baths," the boy observed as he looked over his shoulder at his father. "Come on, Da!
We're gonna wash Indyath!"

"Coming son," U'kaiah chuckled as he trudged along behind them. The kite would have to wait until their next play date. He found a much more suitable toy to play with.

When they arrived at the green's side she took great interest in the little boy. She extended her neck to look at him more closely, then gently poked him with her nose. }:He's so little!:{
**That's because he's just a child. Not grown up yet.**

}:I think I like children. They are little and cute!:{ Kaiafel looked up at Maiz beaming. "She likes me. She's young, isn't she?"

"She likes you very much. And yes, she is young.
Almost seven months old now. She hasn't seen many children, and she has decided she likes them now that we have met you!"

"That is young!" the boy declared. "Has she risen to mate yet?"

"Whoa! All right, young man," U'kaiah laughed as he turned the boy back towards shore. "If you're going to wash a dragon you're going to need brushes and I think we forget them back by the blanket, so why don't you go get them. There you go, that's a good lad," he said giving him a gentle push. As Kaiafel ran back up to retrieve the brushed he turned back to Maiz with a slightly embarrassed and apologetic smile. "Kids say the craziest things sometimes."

"Its okay," Maiz assured him. She wasn't embarassed by Kaiafel's innocent question like she would have been if an adult had asked it. "I'm so jealous of you U'kaiah. Having your little boy, being able to see him all the time." "Well, I get to see him a bit more often now that I'm not a Wingleader. But hopefully I will be put back in charge of my wing soon. I will kind of miss spending time with him," he said with a half smile. There were drawbacks to to chasing his dream.

"I didn't know you used to be a Wingleader."
Privately, she thought that missing his sons childhood wasn't worth the rank. But she was certainly in no position to judge.

"Oh really?" he said with a slightly chagrined chuckle. "I thought _everyone_ knew that. Yes, I was a wingleader, but I let... things get to me. And, well, lets just say the Weyrleader decided I needed to take a break and sort some things out for myself."

"It could be worse... they could have decided you were completely unfit for it. At least you know that you have a chance at the position again."

"Yes, I do have that," he nodded, looking back up the beach to watch as Kaiafel lugged the brushes down. "Shouldn't be too much longer, I hope."

"Good luck with that. And be sure to enjoy your extra time with Kaiafel while you have it. Does he live with his mother?" Maiz asked, curiously.

"Yes he does. During the day he has a foster mother while Felka helps the Headwoman."

Suddenly Indyath was impatient for her bath and Kaiafel was almost there with the brushes. Time for adult conversation to come to an end. "Hope you don't mind helping bath a green! I know she's not the same as a bronze, but..." "Dragon's hide looks all the same to a brush," U'kaiah said with a small wink. Maiz laughed. "Yeah, I suppose it does." Then she smiled at U'kaiah and his son. "Thank both you you for helping me! Indyath and I both appreciate it!"
