Kamira giggled childishly at the rather loud thud and subsequent 'ouch!' that followed it. Judging from the noise and the voice, Servanna had hit her shin on something or other. The young greenrider stumbled back to her injured friend.
"Are you all right?" She whispered in a tone that was not nearly as much of a whisper as it was her normal speaking voice. "That sounded bad."
"Kamira!" Servanna chided as well as she could. "You have to be *quiet*!
We're sneaking, remember?"
"Neither of you are doing a very good job!" H'rarn called from somewhere in the dark hall to their right.
"You had less to drink than we did!" Kamira glared in what she assumed was the weyrling's direction. "And you're supposed to be _helping_ here, H'rarn!"
"And you're all supposed to be in your barracks with your lifemates,"
came a disapproving growl from the darkness. "Just what do you all think you're doing stumbling around _drunk_ after curfew?"
Every member of the inebriated party went a little pale and none of them spoke. H'rarn nudged Kamira forward. "We um... it's Servanna's birthday so we went for a walk and we got a little lost and so we came back late..." She fidgeted nervously with her hands.
"You got a little _drunk_ Kamira! Don't you _dare_ lie to another dragonrider, especially not one that outranks you." U'kaiah's voice held no understanding or sympathy as he looked down at the greenrider.
It crossed the girl's mind to remind U'kaiah that he didn't outrank her now half so much as he did when he was a Wingleader, but she thought it prudent not to mention that. "Oh well then, fine. So we got a little drunk. We're sorry and we won't be late again."
The bronzerider was not about to let them off that easy. "No, you won't. And you all will have extra chores for the next sevenday just to remind you that you won't." "U'kaiah..." Kamira pleaded. "Can't you let us off just this once? I won't ask again!"
"No," the bronzerider replied flatly.
The girl cocked her head and wrinkled her brow. "Seriously? We're actually going to be in trouble? Well crack dust to that!"
"Excuse me, weyrling?" U'kaiah asked, his eyes growing hard and his voice cold as ice. "Do you have a problem?"
Kamira's head was clearing quickly. "No. No problem here, sir." Her tone was about as cold as his. "I'll help the others into bed and expect to report for duties tomorrow morning." She turned on her heel impudently without waiting for a response from the bronzerider and gathered her friends as best she could.
"What just happened?" H'rarn whispered as best he could once they were a safe distance from U'kaiah.
"You just saw what happened." She didn't look back, not even once.
