Date: month 12, day 2 of Turn 3
Kamira woke in the predawn darkness, combing her short hair, and throwing on her clothing sleepily - and with a bit of a headache. As she slipped past her sleeping peers it wasn't the work she dreaded, but facing U'kaiah again.
The bronzerider looked up as she made her way out of the weyrling barracks. "Well, at least you managed to wake up on time."
Kamira's jaw tightened. "Yes, sir." She stared at the floor and kept all tones out of her voice.
U'kaiah dug his boot into the dirt, watching as he dislodged a small stone with his toe. It was easier than looking at her. "I have to say, Kamira, I was really disappointed in you."
**I might say the same about you.** Kamira remained silent for a moment, willing herself _not_ to say what she was thinking; and then simply replied, "What will be my assignment this morning?"
"You know, it wasn't even the fact that you were drunk and out past curfew," the bronzerider continued, ignoring her question entirely, "After all I did the same when I was a weyrling. It was the fact that when you were caught you didn't have the character to face the fact that you were knowingly in the wrong."
"Exactly!" Kamira's eyes burned into U'kaiah's. "You did the _exact_
same thing!" She did her best to keep her temper under control. "But even though you got away with it, I get Scored for it."
"You were stupid enough to get caught," the bronzerider shouted, not bothing to check his temper. Sometimes a show of temper was called for.
"And then you had the nerve to talk back to me as if you had some kind of say in the matter, like some adolescent just our of harper classes!
You know, I used to think you were a fine woman, Kamira, but I am starting to wonder if you are little more than a spoiled overgrown child."
The young greenrider felt the tears in her eyes and she looked at the floor. "I'm sorry you're so obviously disappointed in me, sir."
"Are you, Kamira? Are you sorry?" he asked, crossing his arms across his chest. "Are you sorry that you tried to use me, use our friendship, to show off in front of your friends? Are you sorry that you tried to make me look like a wherry's ass when _you_ were the one in the wrong?
Are you sorry that you showed absolutely no respect for me or for my position? Tell me, Kamira, just what are you sorry for?"
"All of it. I'm sharding sorry that I cared so much for you." She was so quiet she wasn't even sure that U'kaiah would have heard her. Kamaira's voice became stoic, "now what is my assignment this morning?"
The bronzerider heard, but he refused to let her make him feel guilty for treating her like any other weyrling. They may have slept together before she Impressed, but he still had a job to do. "I don't know.
You'll have to ask the Headwoman."
"Fine." Kamira turned on her heel and walked away as quickly as she could. She wasn't about to stand there and take any more abuse from a man she had thought genuinely cared about her.
