J'darin

J'darin

Jyramikah knocked on the door to the Weyrleader's office. She had some idea of what the requested meeting might be about. Ikoladith had chosen a rather young brown as her mate this time around. Knowing J'darin, he probably wasn't too happy about that and wanted to yell at her for allowing her gold to choose such a young _brown_ dragon as if she had any choice in who won her gold's flight.

}:It is Ikoladith's rider:{ Hasaarth supplied helpfully.

J'darin put aside a stack of unwelcome hides; a visitor would be good. "Come in, Jyramikah."

He offered a polite, respectful nod. She _did_ ride a gold that was about to supply his Weyr with much needed Weyrlings. She deserved his respect. "Sit down, lady goldrider. I'd like to talk to you."

"I thought that you might." she replied as she settled herself into one of the chairs.

J'darin smiled faintly at her tone, his eyebrow arching. He didn't start right in on her, surprisingly. "Are you and Ikoladith doing well, Jyramikah? She should be clutching soon, hmm?" He almost chuckled again, guessing his first question might have been unexpected.

"We're well. She's taken to sleeping on the sands, so it shouldn't be too much longer." Jyramikah replied.

He nodded, pleased to hear it. "Good. And don't worry. I am not going to be so foolish as to lecture you about your dragon's proclivities in choosing a Mate, Lady. If anyone knows the dragon chooses, its Hasaarth and I." He grinned. "That's how we wound up in this position - because the dragon Chose."

"I am slightly concerned though, Jyramikah. This clutch is liable to be smaller, as her last one was, and that is not good. Has she given you any idea _why_ she keeps choosing browns?"

"I don't have the slightest clue, J'darin. If I knew, I'd tell you.. I adore brown riders, but I'd like a bronze or two in between, myself."
she said with a sigh. It was something she had been trying to figure out since the morning of the flight. He was so _young_ and not what she had been expecting at all. It wasn't like there weren't enough bronzes to choose from that she hadn't flown before. At least she thought there was, that would be something she'd have to look into.

J'darin nodded understandingly. "If only for the size and type of clutches. Is it something she would discuss with you? Perhaps with Nyith? I would really like a bronze to fly her just for clutch size alone, although this one as small as I'd have guessed." He raised a hand before she could think he was telling her to choose for her dragon, he knew that wasn't possible. "I am also curious, and I know there is nothing we can do about her choices!" He chuckled warmly.

His head cocked curiously at her. "I know its not really my place to ask, but are you happy here? With me as Weyrleader and Traelyn as Senior? We've never spent much time together discussing things since Nyith rose, and since you're here, and we're discussing dragon choices..
" He smiled again, and it was a friendly smile.

"I can always try to see what she says about it. Why wouldn't I be happy here, J'darin? I wouldn't want to be any place else." she replied wondering why he would ask such a question. She might not have wanted to be here when she first was transfered, but that was only because a rather irksome rival was the Weyrwoman at the time. However, as they worked together they became friends and put their past differences behind them.

"No reason, Jyramikah. I just don't get an opportunity to talk to you very often." He let it go. He had thought Jyramikah would resent Traelyn becoming Senior when it should have been Ikoladith that rose first, but he had only that because -he- no doubt would have, were in her shoes. Like when they brought poor Q'dan to be Weyrlingmaster in J'darin's place.

"Never mind me asking that question. If Ikoladith says anything you wish to share, I'd be glad to hear it. Otherwise, we'll just be glad to keep populating our Weyr, no matter how she chooses to do it."

"I will let you know if she does. How have _you_ been lately? We really don't get to talk as much anymore, do we?" she replied remembering how much she enjoyed the bronzerider's company even if others thought him harsh and abrupt.

He had been thankful to her for seeing through him, though at times it had been a little too convenient. He smiled at her again and rose to his feet to pour a glass of wine for them both. "I have been .. well..
I suppose. After Kalina left it was difficult, and then adjusting when Nyith Rose that day. But mostly I worry that flying shorthanded as we are, we will lose more riders than could be normally expected."

He sighed softly, pouring two mugs and offering her one though he wasn't sure she'd take it.

"I was faintly surprised to discover what being Weyrleader did for my feelings about all the riders, no matter the color. If you believe the rumors, I am a true wherry's arse!" He chuckled and took a sip of wine as he rejoined her.

"Rumors are usually started by people who have nothing better to do than gossip about others just to make themselves feel better. I don't put any stock in what I hear about anyone, especially myself. You should hear what the candidates say about me and Ikoladith when she's in one of her moods." she replied taking the proffered mug and sipping it.

J'darin chuckled, his eyes warming as he looked at the Weyrwoman Second.
He wondered idly what would have happened if Hasaarth had caught Ikoladith that fateful day. So long ago, it seemed. After a moment, his smile broadened into pleasure. "You know, Jyramikah, you're absolutely right. I should never listen to what they say about me."

"Between you and I, I laugh when I hear the ones about Ikoladith and you..." He chuckled dryly. "I'm surprised the Weyrlings don't all run in fear from such awful people in leadership."

He winked at her. "Here is to being a wherry's arse." And raised his glass to hers.

She laughed and raised her glass to touch his. She really did enjoy Spending time with J'darin. She sighed as Ikoladith let her known in no uncertain terms that she was in need of her attention immediately. "Ah, my darling queen calls me back to her side. Apparently I am not going to be as free during this clutch as I had hoped. She hasn't even got them on the sands and she's more demanding and moodier than normal. You'll have to come visit me on the Sands, J'darin." she said with a shake of her head.

J'darin nodded his head, smiling. "If your lovely queen will permit, I'll be glad to visit you, your queen, and her eggs." He rose to his feet.
"We'll have to do this more often, Jyramikah." He raised his hand in a vow as she began to leave. "I will if you will!"

"I will." she said as she smiled and shut the door behind her. She definitely would have to take him up on his offer.
