Tarney sighed and walked into an empty classroom. The Hallmaster had asked him some time ago to begin teaching classes on various subjects -
one of which was dragons and dragonriders - to those unfamiliar with the ways of a weyr. Today was to be his first lesson on the subject and he wasn't anxious to begin, but never the less, he went to the desk and went about arranging his things for the impending lesson.
"Journyman? I was told to report to this class today, but I'm not sure why." M'tias gestured to his knotes.
Tarney smiled and gestured to M'tais to come in. "This is a class on basic music theory and the like - does that sound like something you signed up for?"
"I guess, I didn't get much training at the Hall becfore I came here."
"Well then it's time we trained you up again! How long were you in the Hall before you were Searched?" Tarney hopped all his students were this friendly and willing to learn.
"Two or three months, long enough to learn my way around and who I could con out of sweets in the kitchens." he smiled.
"And how long has it been since then?"
"Almost two turns"
The journeyman laughed. "Well then you'll need to brush up on more than just how to charm drudges out of bubbly pies."
"I guess I do. Woeth's taken up most of my time and the weyrlings the rest."
"No time for women? You must be a busy dragonrider indeed!"
M'tias blushed, he was only fourteen turns old and hadn't found much about girls to be intrested in. Woenth hadn't even chased yet.
Tarney immediately felt bad for the youth. "I'm only teasing." He said kindly. "All that will come in time. There's nothing wrong with concentrating on yoru studies."
"Oh, okay."
The journeymen knew that he wasn't very experienced with dragonriding, but he knew what it was like to feel out of place in a new world. "You know, M'tais, if you ever need someone to show you the ropes - as long as we're not talking about anything related to dragons - I'd be more than happy to help..."
"I promise, I won't ask you any questions about dragons." he grinned.
"Good! Unless it's written in a ballad, I wouldn't know!" Presently, another pupil came in. "But we can talk about this afterward, class is about to begin."
