"I hope Aosorath isn't bothering your green," D'cal smiled as he squatted down in the sand next to the greenrider. He nodded out towards the small blue. Though he had reached his full growth, he still wasn't so very much bigger than the green he paddled around. "He's learning the fine arts of flirting. I'm not sure he's any good at it yet, but he's trying."
"I don't think he is," she replied.
**Is he?**
}:He's amusing,:{ came the reply from Degrorth. }:He's not bothering me at all.:{ }:I think she likes me,:{ came the blue's proud reply.
D'cal chuckled. "Well, just let me know if he does." He studied the young woman's face for a moment. She looked familiar. "We met before, didn't we?"
"I think so, before you impressed?" A vague memory of talking to a young sailor surfaced. "You were a seacrafter?"
"Yes," he nodded. Though she seemed to remember him, he was still having trouble recalling the details of their meeting. All the faces had blended together back then. "I was Searched from Topaz Sea Hold about eight months ago or so."
"Almost a local boy then," she teased gently. "I'm northern born myself."
"Really? How did you end up down here?" D'cal asked curiously.
"I came as a crafter," she pointed to her knots, sure he'd recognize the addition that showed her to be a healer. "The Weyrhealer at the time, well he was one of my masters at the Healer Hall, and he offered a few of us the chance to come south and advance in the craft. Somehow I ended up on the sands impressing that green lovely as well."
"You came _south_ to advance?" the bluerider asked with a chuckle. "It sounds like you were misinformed."
"I knew it wouldn't be easy, but they thought some weyr experience would be good, then in a turn or two I'd go back to the North."
"Do you think you would like to transfer back up north someday?"
"One day, who knows. But Dolphin cove needs us now, and especially with Degrorth and her skill at finding candidates."
"Wait... I think I remember talking to you now," D'cal smiled. Her being a Searchrider sparked the memory. "I was sitting outside that day, sowing firestone sacks."
"Seems like half a lifetime ago, doesn't it?"
"More than half," the bluerider nodded. "I'm sorry, I forgot your name."
"Oria," she replied.
"D'cal. Formerly Dacraslar," he said with a small smile. That's how she was probably introduced to him. Shards, he had hardly even thought of his birthname since he Impressed. It seemed almost like a faint memory now...
"Nice to meet you again."
"Yes, that it is," D'cal smiled. "So have you found any fun secret places while you were off Searching?"
"I did, if you like nice country glades. I found a very pretty spot.
Degrorth wasn't too impressed though, nothing for her to hunt. But it was nice to sunbathe there for a candlemark or two."
"Hmmm... Sounds nice," D'cal smiled. "I hadn't been able to do much exploring since I was weyrling. Now that we have a bit more freedom, I'm hoping Aosorath and I can get out more."
"You'll be able to, and if you find someone to take with you, well I'm sure Degrorth will share the visualization."
"And if I go alone she won't?" D'cal asked teasingly? "What if I asked you to come with me?"
She looked surprised for a moment, then realized he was teasing. "What about Dyaera?"
D'cal shrugged. "This is a Weyr." As Dyaera was so fond of reminding him.
"I know, and Dyaera is my friend."
"Did I say I was asking you to for anything other than company?" he asked with a smile. It was rather flattering, in a way.
"No you didn't, and I just assumed," she replied with a smile. "But this is a weyr." D'cal wondered if he would actually take the opportunity if it presented itself. He did love Dyaera, and she was the one he wanted. But he knew she saw nothing wrong with taking other lovers. It wouldn't bother her.
Why shouldn't he? "Just let me know when you are available."
"Maybe I will," she replied casually.
"And maybe you won't?" he finished for her.
"You never know, ask me nicely sometime and I might surprise you."
