R'han's cockiness got him as far as U'val's doorstep and then he found himself wondering if he really wanted to deal wtih Abrei after she'd called him old--even if her wine loosened lips had bragged about his prowess.
Then he got to thinking about her lips. And then her hips, and her breasts and...he just gave up and shoved the door open and wandered inside. "Abrei?"
"I _knew_ he was lying!" There was a thud from behind the couch and Abrei's tosseled head popped up, looking at him from narrowed eyes. "He said he was going to get dinner and you are _not_ dinner."
"One wouldn't know it from the way you abuse my poor body some nights..."
R'han laughed. "He might have been lying to you, but he wasn't to me. You are _hammered_."
Abrei climbed back onto the couch and flopped onto her back, crossing her arms over her chest. "I am not. I can hold my liquor. I know my limits."
She'd ended up with her head hanging over the arm of the couch, so she glared at him upside-down. "What are you doing here anyway? I'm hiding from you."
"Um...wouldn't that have been easier in your own weyr instead of invading poor U'val's? And I came because you're ruining the man's lovelife!"
"If I hid in my weyr you could have found me." Abrei frowned as she pondered this statement. "It was a good idea until U'val told on me. He's such a coward."
"A horny coward. I can take you to your weyr or we can find mine. I heard you disposed of the rest of your clothes. That was stupid."
"Uh-huh." Abrei sat up and planted her feet on the ground. With what looked like amazing concentration, she managed to get herself standing. It was obvious that U'val hadn't exaggerated the situation with her clothing--everything had been discarded except for undergarments and a sleeveless shirt so tight it might as well have not been there. "I don't want to go to my weyr. And you don't want me to go to yours."
"I just offered to take you there. Although I really don't think you'd made it in the state you're in..." Shard it, but did she _have_ to look so sexy while so sloppily drunk?!
"I can walk!" Obviously determined to prove it, Abrei stalked acoss the room to the table where she'd abandoned the mug of klah U'val had poured for her.
"That's cold and you're still drunk." R'han walked over to her and put his hand on her shoulder. "Come home and get to bed so I can get some sleep and you can sleep it off." He realized what he'd said and didn't bother to correct it--she was so drunk, what did it matter?!
"You're an ass," she muttered in an annoyed voice, staring at the mug of klah. "You made me cry."
"I'm _your_ ass...and you made me mad. It seemed only fair."
She made a rather rude noise before banging the mug of klah down on the table. "It's your own damn fault! I used to be able to deal with danger and death and then you came along and made me feel things and now I have something to _lose_ and I'm terrified!"
R'han stared at her open mouthed, shocked for once into silence. Then he reached out and pulled her to him. "Ditto..."
Abrei sniffled, hiding her face against his shoulder. "I hate being scared.
I need things I can fix, and I can't fix being scared all the time."
"I know. You just can't _fix_ everything, Abrei. Some things you have to leave alone..." He hugged her tightly. "I can't make promises but I can promise you I'll make sure I try my best to come back to you, every day."
She nodded against his chest, sneaking a hand up to rub at her eyes. After a long pause she spoke into the silence. "I need your tunic. I threw all my clothing in the bathing pool and I think I'm kind of naked."
He buried his face in her hair and laughed. "You are. I like you this way, however." He let his hands fall to her hips. "Or are you too drunk to tell?"
"Hmmm..." She slid one hand down his chest and lower without hesitation, laughing at his reaction. "No, I'm going to have to be a _whole_ lot drunker before I can't tell..."
"Good to know..." Still he wasn't sure if he like the idea of her being the aggressor--not with her having called him old. Even if she bragged about his prowess from the top of the Weyr Bowl to the lower caverns, it was what they said to each other _alone_ that mattered. "I have a solution for healers who can't keep their hands to themselves...."

She ended up with trembling knees, her breathing ragged as she tried to keep herself from collapsing onto U'val's table. "Need to sit down. Lay down.
Maybe fall down."
Laughing, he pulled her back against him, wrapping his arms around her waist. "I'm not sure if U'val wanted me to be this literal when he told me to make up with you. If not, it _does_ it serves his arse right..."
"Uh-huh..." The press of his body against hers reminded her that there was lots of beautiful skin and more than a few firm muscles that she hadn't gotten a chance to fully appreciate yet. She turned languidly in his arms and looked up at him with a slow, predetory smile. "Maybe you should take me back to your weyr, R'han... unless you want to stay the night here. By the time I'm done with you, you're not going to remember _how_ to walk."
R'han wondered if she'd remember that he'd carried her half naked throught the Weyr tomorrow morning. Then he wondered if she'd care. Then he wondered if _he'd_ care and decided that he really didn't care as long as he got her back to her own weyr where they could ravish each other in peace.
He managed to get his pants fastened, then lifted her up. "If you're going to make me forget how to walk, then I'd best get us to someplace where I'm not required to!"
That, and if he didn't get her out now, poor U'val might end losing his weyr for a few more candlemarks!
