Date: month 7, day 4 of Turn 3
Kavlyn was in his usual cheerful mood when he wandered into the tanner's area and grinned at the journeyman who looked up upon his entrance. "I don't recognize you. You must be new."
Toriat lifted his head from his tooling when he heard someone approach.
Then he tilted his head up a bit further. Toriat recognized him, he was hard not to forget, but they had not yet formally met. He spoke softly, nodding. "I've been around for a little bit, but I'm quiet. How can I help you?"
His goal momentarily forgotten, Kavlyn tipped his head to the side. "Your name would be a good start. I'm Kavlyn, and you'll see a lot of me. I'm in here for one thing or another all the time."
Toriat stood up with a slight smile, idly twiddling his tooling instrument in his left hand. "Ok Kavlyn, the name is Toriat, recently searched, continuing my journeymenship in tannercraft. Now what else can I help you with?"
"Nice to meet you, Toriat." Kavlyn grinned. "So the reason you look so familiar is because you're one of the candidates now... not long until the Hatching. Are you excited?"
Toriat assumed a thoughtful pose. "Yes, I guess so. Maybe not as much, because if I don't think about it, I won't be nervous. I'm typically not one to wear my emotions on my sleave also."
"Ahh, nothing to be nervous about," Kavlyn reassured him quickly. "I've been through my fair share... every Hatching since Thread returned."
"Well, i'm not scared nervous or anything," Toriat replied quickly, "Just, worried about the unknown, anticipation. Trying not to get my hopes up, but at the same time wondering what it'd be like to be bonded with a dragon.
Wondering how things would change with a dragon." Toriats tone was getting more thoughtful, slower and quiet with each statement, "Wondering which dragon would I impress."
"I don't spend too much time thinking about that sort of thing," Kavyln replied after a moment's thought. Then he leaned forward and lowered his voice. "Though I tell you in the strictest confidence that I have every intention of Impressing the gold."
Toriats mouth pulled into a wide smile. "You know," he said, whispering too, "I somehow think that may just suite you Kavyln. Tell me, what experiences can you impart from your many turns on the sands."
Grinning, Kavlyn leaned back. "Oh, I don't know if I'm the one to be asking for advice... after all, I've _had_ many turns on the sands and am still standing!"
Toriat sighed, shrugging. "I guess you have a point there. Still you know more about this then me." After pausing a moment he shook his head. "Why did you come by here originally?"
"Oh, I need a new belt, and I prefer to let the experts work with the leather." Kavlyn winked at Toriat. "There's nothing I can't do with fabric, but I admit to needing help from time to time with other things."
"Welll," Toriat thought a moment, while rummaging around for a measuring rope. "I'm hardly a master, but my work isn't that bad. Not bad at all."
He pointed to the scrap he was tooling on while he grabbed for a spare piece of record hide. "Anything special about this belt?" He paused a sec, cocking his head. "And boy, if you can make wings with fabric, I'd like to see you try to fly."
Kavlyn laughed. "No, just need a nice simple belt. And as for the wings... I doubt I can compete with dragons."
"Good point there," he got a hold of the measuring rope he was looking.
"You don't happen to know your measurements do you?"
"Awww, you caught me..." Kavlyn winked again and took the hide from Toriat, scratching down the numbers in question. Of _course_ he knew them! But he wouldn't have minded Toriat having to take his again.
While Kavlyn was writing down his measurements Toriat cocked his head to the side, thinking. **did he want to be measured?** He wrapped the cord around his arm, to keep it handy. When Kavlyn was done he took the hide scrap.
"Well, Ok if you're sure these are right. What about the color, an what style buckle you want on this, and are you sure, no designs, nothing special, or anything?
"Plain brown, no buckle." Kavlyn grinned and hooked his fingers in his pockets. "I've got a nice smith who owes me a favor or two... he's making me a _beautiful_ buckle."
"Ooook" Even though it was simple enough to remember he made sure to jot some notes down. "Really? Whats the desgin for the buckle like?"
"In theory it's going to be a dragon..." Kavlyn rolled his eyes. "Hopefully he'll still give it to me even if I don't Impress!"
"In theory?" Toriat quirked an eye brow. "Well, that'd be unfair, specially if its a favor and not a gift. Who owes you the favor?"
"Lendane," Kavlyn replied. "I made him a smart tunic that all the ladies love... it's my specialty, if you're ever looking for something new to wear." The tailor gave Toriat an approving grin. "I could make lovely clothing for you."
"MMmm," Toriat though, considering Kavlyn's offer. "I might have to take you up on that. Although I'm quite clever with the hides, I wouldn't know how to construct anything with cloth."
"Well, then... we'll just have to combine our talents." Kavlyn gave a final wink. "But for now, if you've got the information you need... well, I've got places to go and ladies to charm! Perhaps a few lads as well."
