Holder Alrog, how lovely to see you again," said Fieayz as she spotted the young holder whilst out on a walk. "It's quite a nice day, don't you think?"
"Lady Fieayz, it's always a pleasure to see you. It's nice. Spring's finally here," Alrog replied.
"It looks that way," she replied. Some wildflowers were starting to appear amongst the trees, splashes of colour among the greens. "I like to see the flowers back."
"It is. And grass. After several months of grey, white and brown, even grass is welcome sight," Alrog replied.
"Very welcome," she replied. At that moment, there was a slight 'pop' as her flit emerged from /between/. "You remember Arva, don't you," she said as the gold settled herself on her mistresses shoulder.
"Yes, I do. Hello there beautiful," Alrog gave the firelizard a respectful nod.
The flit chittered in response, knowing she was being paid a compliment.
"I think she likes you," said Fieayz. "Might I ask where your own flit is?"
"I left him to sleep at my office," Alrog replied. "He pretty much comes and goes as he will. And still keeps stealing people's things!" Alrog replied, reminding her how they had first met.
She smiled, "I have nothing here for him to take."
"Good," Alrog grinned.
"But if you would care to join me, why waste such a lovely day?"
"If you don't mind..." Alrog replied and offered her his elbow-crook.
She took it feeling flattered. Addressing her as Lady was only a courtesy, but one that she enjoyed. There was something about the young Holder though. "How's your sister and her new husband?"
"So happy it's almost embarrassing to watch them," Alrog smiled.
"They looked like they would make a very good couple. And I bet you'll be an uncle soon."
"Oh, yes, very soon," Alrog rolled his eyes.
"Really," she said politely. Either the girl had already been pregnant, or the wedding night had been very successful, thought Fieayz, but that was something she was too polite to say.
"So, what have you been doing lately?" Alrog asked, trying to keep the polite small talk alive and avoid sensitive subjects.
"Following Arva around, planning meals... You know ladies things."
"I have to confess certain ignorance in that area of life. My mother and sisters handle all that," Alrog said.
"That's how we like it. After all, there has to be some mysteries in life, don't you think?" she replied.
"Yes, they add spices to the life," Alrog agreed.
"That spice can be fun," she teased gently.
Alrog gave her one of his rare smiles that turned his normally so somber face to something else altogether.
"See, it made you smile, so it has to be fun." And it really was a nice smile, let her see his eyes as well, and they were part of the smile.
"I really should do that more often, smile that is," Alrog said.
"You should."
"It's not so easy, when you have whole hold with 120 people under your responsiblity, " he said with serious voice.
"You sound like my father," she said. "He has a hall full of apprentices to deal with."
"I think that's the prize of the rank," Alrog said thoughtfully.
"You should make it more fun, or find someone to make it more fun for you."
"Like a spouse?" Alrog gave her a long, studious look.
"Perhaps, or a good steward," she said, realising he was watching her.
"I have a good Steward, he was also my father's steward," Alrog replied.
"Papa has a very good Hallsecond to help him."
Alrog nodded. "That's a good thing."
"He doesn't seem to let him do as much as he should though, perhaps their move to Amber Hills will help him there."
Alrog's eyes were starting to get bit glased. He had no knowledge of the things she talked about. But he kept nodding and tried to appear attentive.
"Perhaps Otrina and I should come and visit your hold soon," suggested Fieayz.
"You should do that," Alrog agreed. "But get an escort, the felines are still a problem."
"We'll organise it soon."
"I'll be waiting for you," Alrog replied.
