Birigundi stood outside the Headwoman's office waiting for her to open the door. He was actually a little nervous, not only for fear that she would reject his request, but also it seemed, and it could have just been his imagination, but it seemed that she hadn't been too happy with him lately. It could be because he wasn't a very good role model for the other candidates, but really, he wasn't a twelve turn old boy. He was a _man_ now. Hopefully it was just his imagination...
"Ahh. The ever-popular Birigundi," Thayar said on finding the candidate when she unlatched the door. "Come in." She didn't invite him to sit as she went back behind her desk settled into her chair. "Go ahead." No point in pretending he didn't have something to say - if he hadn't, he wouldn't have sought her out.
Yeah, he was in the watchwher's den for something... "Good morning, Thayar," Birigundi said with his most charming grin. "I was wondering if I could talk to you about moving into a weyr of my own."
Thayar paused long enough that she might have been giving the request some thought. "Alone?"
"Well, yes, of course," he said almost shocked by the question. Who would he move in _with_? Ah, Nia... "I am expecting a child soon,"
**two in fact...** "but the mother and I are not in any kind of monogamous relationship."
"I didn't suppose for a moment that you would be," the Headwoman said bluntly. "Can you explain why the upcoming birth of a child to a woman you are _not_ in a relationship with means that _you_ have a need for separate accommodation?"
"Ah, well..." Shards, she was being rather picky... "Just because Nialyn and I are not in a monogamous relationship doesn't mean that I don't intend to do my part as father of our child."
"Oh? What will 'your part' consist of?" She waved a hand at one of the chairs. "Sit down and tell me all about your plans for combining fatherhood and candidacy."
"All right." He eased into the chair. For some reason he had thought it would be... simpler than this... "Well, I've been a Candidate for three turns now, so its not as if I don't already know how the Weyr works and all. And I could help with the baby. You know, what him while Nia is busy. Or just to visit. You know, playing with the child. Things father's do, I suppose. And when he's older maybe he could stay with me sometimes..." Maybe he should tell her about Rigella's baby too... No, it might get back to Nia...
"Hmm. You intend to take an active part in the babe's life then?
Forever? Or when it's convenient?" Again she waved a hand, this one intended to keep him silent. "Notwithstanding you Impressing and having duties to your lifemate and the Weyr."
"Yes, I want to take an active role in my children's life! Is that really so hard to believe?" Shards, what did he ever do to get her so flaming annoyed at him?
"Children? I suppose it will be that before too many Turns have passed if you carry on the way you have been. All right," she reached over to the shelves and pulled a large book into her hands. She set it in front of her, opened it and unfolded the first page until it covered almost the full width of the desk. "I suppose I can find somewhere other than the candidate barracks for somebody with your increasing personal responsibilities." From a drawer she took a scrap of paper and a drawing stick and then returned to her study of the Mid Cliff level accommodation. She made a handful of notations on the paper and then held it across the desk to the candidate. "These are free and you can take your pick. Come back and let me know which you've chosen."
"Thank you," Birigundi mumbled as he took the piece of paper in hand.
"Maybe I should report back to your assistant so I don't take any more of your time?" **Or anymore of your displeasure...**
"That's thoughtful, but I don't think so. Candidates are my responsibility and not one I intend to shirk - especially in your case."
**Well, isn't it an honor to be so sinlgled out...** "Thank you. I will let you know which one I decide on, then."
"Please do," Thayar said drily as she got to her feet to cross her office and open the door, making it possible for the dark-haired candidate to escape.
