Teseada

Teseada

"Karri!" called out Teseada as she spotted her friend in the dining cavern. "How've you been?"

She waved Teseada over, sliding down the bench so that she would have room to sit. "I've been doing good, how have you been doing?"

"Oh better than good," replied Teseada with a laugh as she sat down.
"Wonderful in fact."

"I take it your day with Y'nub went well?" Karri said with a grin.

"Very well," Teseada was sure she had a satisfied look on her face as she thought about some of the more enjoyable parts.

Karri smiled a knowing smile and sipped on her klah. "So, are you going to see this fella again?"

"I hope so. He's really nice, I mean that. He was sweet, made a perfect picnic for us, even went to the trouble of getting those cheesy things I like from the kitchens."

She was glad Teseada had found somebody she liked and who liked her.
Her friend wasn't the most eye catching rider around (but certainly more appealing than herself with her large scar across her face), but she was good hearted and deserved to be happy. "So when do I get to meet this very nice, and if I remember right, very handsome bronzerider?
He has to pass the 'friend inspection' at some point!"

"He said he's going to be in here tonight." She looked around, "In fact, there he is." She waved at him, beckoning him over.

Karri followed her friends line of sight and saw a couple of riders, three men and one woman, drinking in the corner. Karri had noticed the group before Teseada arrived because the woman and the brown haired rider and been getting a little too friendly for her comfort. They had calmed down abit when the other two riders had joined them thankfully.
The group paid the young goldrider no mind and Karri had to ask, "Which one is he?"

"The dark haired one. Him at the back." She waved again, trying to catch his attention.

She'd been afraid of that. This _was_ a weyr, and one picnic together didn't mean any sort of commitment, but still, when all she saw Y'nub give Teseada was a small head nod of acknowledgment she felt bad for her friend.

She could see he'd seen her, so why didn't he come over? wondered Teseada.

}:I could speak to his bronze?:{ offered Onnyth.

**No, don't,** was the quick reply.

"Maybe he's in the middle of something?" suggested Teseada.

"Probably." agreed Karri. **So much for the 'friend inspection'** she mused as she looked down at her empty tray. "Are you about done? I was thinking about seeing if there was anything going on down at the lake."

"Maybe," said Teseada absently. "Do you think I should go and say hello?"

Karri didn't know what to say. He might be happy to see her and talk and invite her to join the group, but the way he was acting with that woman earlier... Teseada had just seemed so happy when she talked about him, and what if he blew her off? "You could... or we could just come back up later."

Teseada thought about it for a moment. "You know, I think I'll just go say hello, then catch up with you."

Karri bit her lip uncertainly, she didn't want to just leave, especially if Y'nub... "Oh, looks like they just set out some sweet cakes! I'll go grab a couple for us while you go say hi."

"Okay, I'll see you in a moment." She smiled at Karri, before walking over to the small knot of people.

"Y'nub," she said.

"Yeah?" he said turning his head to see the goldrider at the end of the table. He dropped the grin on his face as quickly as he slid off the hand that had been inching its way up his thigh. "Oh, hi Teseada."

"How're you?" she said, a smile on her face. "I was hoping you might come and join me and my friends for a bit, I told them all about you."

Y'nub pushed the ticklish hand away again and cleared his throat. "Um, I'm kind of busy tonight, maybe some other time."

"But..." Her voice trailed off. "I thought..."

The woman sitting next to Y'nub was tired of being put off, so she decided she would move to where he couldn't ignore her... right on his lap. Before Y'nub could utter a protest she fixed that too by planting a very wet kiss on his mouth.

Karri was at Teseada's side before they even got to the kiss, and once she saw _that_ she grabbed her elbow and drug her away, "Come on, you don't have to watch this."

"But I thought he..." she began as Karri began to steer her out of the dining cavern. "I thought he liked me."

Karri was again without words, she didn't have any experience in this sort of consoling, so all she could do was keep walking Teseada away from that wretched tunnelsnake. "You didn't deserve that." she finally muttered as they turned the corner that would lead them to the Weyrbowl.

"How could he? It must have been that greenrider."

It didn't really _look_ like it was all on the greenrider when Karri had seen the two before Teseada had arrived. "Maybe..." she said warily, "Let's just forget about him okay? They're having a bonfire down at the lake on the beach, doesn't that sound like fun?"

"Maybe that's what I need, to get out for a bit."

"Definitely. And I think I heard talk of a game of Shoes too!"
Anything to get her mind off Y'nub.

"I don't know," Teseada felt shaken by what she had seen going on in there.

Karri sighed, why was she taking this so hard? Had she acted this way when F'lik had passed her over for that baker? "Well _I_ know. You'll feel much better after a game of Shoes, some ale, and a couple of really badly sung harper songs. Trust me!"

Teseada managed a weak smile. "I think you might be right." She sighed.

"Why did he do that though?" "I don't know hun," Karri said weakly as she gave her friend a shoulder squeeze in hopes it would provide at least a small comfort. "At least I have my friends."

"That you do!" she replied, trying to sound more chipper than she felt at the moment. "That you do!"
