N'kalen leaned back against the wall of the cavern and smiled. He was finally relaxing for a few moments over his evening meal. Suddenly, he was jolted out of his calm state as something flew by his head. He retraced the path of the object and found...D'cal.
"Ah, I see you got my message," the younger bluerider grinned.
"Some message!" N'kalen smiled at the younger rider.
"Well, I was half afraid you were going to fall asleep and miss this wonderful meal of... mashed tubers and... Is this some kind of seafood pudding?" D'cal drippled some of the yellow gelatanous mass off of his spoon.
N'kalen stretched and winced as he caught a sore muscle. "I have decided it is just not edible, whatever it is. It tastes like...I don't know what it tastes like, but it is _not_ good!"
"You should try eating ship food for months at a time," D'cal grinned as he slipped onto the seat next to N'kalen. "I'd take a few questionable meals over monotony."
"You know, I've never been on a ship. What's it like?"
"Like flying," the bluerider said with a nostalgic smile. "The wind in your hair, the sea spray on your face, the smell of the sea soaking into everything around you. Being rocked to sleep every night, the sky alight with stars. There's nothing like it."
"It sounds wonderful. I think I'd like to try it sometime. However between studying, drills, and flying Thread, I doubt I'd have a chance!" N'kalen sighed gustily.
"Yeah, me neither," D'cal shrugged helplessly. "Not a long voyage anyway. And besides, what would I do with Aosorath if I put to sea?
No, I think I have to just accept those days are over."
"Yes but being a rider is amazing." N'kalen grinned. "And there's always short jaunts here and there. But just think, we can travel all over Pern far faster than a ship could ever sail."
Y'nub waved goodbye to his fellow wingmates as drills ended for the day. They'd had afternoon and evening drills today so it was almost full dark now, but that had been for the better after the hangover he'd woken up with that morning. **Larweth, ask Onnyth if it would be okay to come and see her and Teseada.** He'd seen the golden body land on what he assumed was their weyr ledge, and he figured that if he was going to have a chance at getting her to forgive him for his behavior with Jenali last night, he'd better apologize sooner rather than later.
}:Larweth's wants to talk.:{
**So talk to him then,** was the off hand reply.
}:It's you he wants to talk to, he wants to come here...:{ That made her think, should she let him in, or not? **Tell him he can have ten minutes.**
"Ten minutes!" Y'nub said out loud, surprised. He didn't think he'd made her _that_ upset. **Well, we'd better get up there then, before she changes her mind.**
}: Onnyth is not happy. :{ Larweth replied with a rumble as Y'nub set himself right in his straps.
**Just use some of your bronze charm to get back into her good graces, that's what I plan on doing! ** As Larweth launched himself and headed towards Teseada's weyr, Y'nub just hoped it would be enough.
She watched him land. If only he wasn't so sharding good looking, Did he know how many hearts would melt when they saw him...
"Ten minutes, and it had better be good," she said. If he was going to behave like he did in the dining cavern last night, she didn't need any more than that. Trust her feelings, that what she had been told.
Boy did she look mad... but he'd seen her eyes soften a bit when his eyes had met hers so he knew he had a chance. "Ten minutes is more than I deserve. I treated you horribly last night, and I'm sorry."
"You did," she said. "It was humiliating."
He closed the distance between them and took her hand, "It wasn't how it looked though, it's all just a misunderstanding."
"That greenrider, she was... She was all over you, it didn't look like a 'misunderstanding' to me. Not from where I was stood."
"Jenali was just drunk," Y'nub explained as he took her other hand in his, "She was an old friend who had just broken things off with her weyrmate. She thought that sleeping with me would make her feel better and she wouldn't take no for an answer no matter how many times I said it."
She looked at him suspiciously. "You didn't did you? Be honest."
Y'nub shook his head and brought her hands up to his lips so he could kiss them. "No, I did not sleep with her, just ask D'enek. We all went back to my weyr and she passed out on my couch. D'enek and I played cards for awhile and then I went to sleep."
"Really?" She wanted to believe him, she really did.
"Really." he kissed her hands again and gave her a warm smile.
"Jenali is a pain sometimes, but she's been my friend since we were candidates, and I couldn't just abandon her and let her go off and do something she'd regret in the morning."
"No, no you couldn't." Teseada wasn't sure whether to believe him or not, she really wanted to believe he was one of the good guys, that he was just looking out for a friend, but something niggled at her.
He detected a hint of uncertainty, but he didn't want her to think anymore about the incident so he leaned down and gave her a long, sweet kiss on the lips. "Come have dinner with me tonight? In my weyr?
I'll make it special."
The kiss told her all she needed to know. "Okay," she said at last.
"Maybe you really are one of the good guys."
