K'sedel

K'sedel

While Ciara slept, K'sedel sat watching the baby in her crib. She lay sleeping too, looking so peaceful. It was hard to think of the amount of noise those tiny lungs could produce when she was hungry, or needed changing.

**Nikornath, can you please ask Eniidith what hers is doing right now,**
he asked of his bronze.

}:Taking a bath,:{ was the green's reply.

**Ask if hers will come and see us once he is clean. I want him to meet the hatchling.**

"So," the greenrider grinned as he walked into his father's weyr all fresh and clean, "I hear your newest finally Hatched! Congratulations!"

"Yes, she did, and your sister is asleep, so don't wake her up."

"Oh, I wouldn't dream, of it." R'sedel peered into the crib. "She's so tiny! Its amazing to think she's my sister. Technically, I'm old enough to be her grandfather."

"Very tiny, and very noisy when she cries." K'sedel rubbed tired eyes, "I suppose I'll get used to it again. Radela can't help it."

"Well, you better. You're stuck with her now," the greenrider chuckled as he clapped his father on the shoulder. "And how is Ciara?"

"Sleeping, taking advantage of the fact that this one is too." A smile crossed the Weyrleader's face. "I told her the baby would be fine with me."

"Was she having trouble trusting you?"

"It's a new mother thing, Meree was the same, and your mother was too,"
stated K'sedel.

"Oh, I remember Meree and her protectiveness." His father had always been good about incorporating him in with his 'real' families.

"She'd have liked the way you've all turned out."

"Even K'reyel?" R'sedel asked with a teasing roll of his eyes.

"Him too," and before that conversation could go any further, the baby gave a tiny wail.

"Shhhh," said her father as he picked her up gently, "Ahhh, you heard your big brother was here and wanted to be noticed."

"All right, give her here and let me greet her right." The greenrider picked up a blanket, tossed it over his shoulder and held his hands out to him pleadingly. He'd had _lots_ of experience with his father's younger children.

"Be careful," was all K'sedel said as he gently handed Radela over.

"You're worse than a woman sometimes," R'sedel chuckled as he gently laid the baby against his shoulder, rocking and rubbing her back gently.

"She's not three days old yet and stolen my heart already, I'm entitled to be protective."

"Well, just don't forget I practically raised your other daughters."
There had been quite a bit of an age difference between his oldest and youngest by his previous weyrmate. "I didn't do a bad job with them, now did I? I think they turned out quite nice and pretty despite your unfortunate genetics. This one will be just the same."

"I'm sure she will."

"Well, just look at her. She's already a heart breaker!" The greenrider paused for a moment, gently patting the baby's backside.
"Yeah, you know what? You can take her. You need the bonding time with her more than I do. Here you go..."

Her father took her back, then sniffed. "Ahh. Now I know why your brother wanted me to hold you."

"I'm afraid you're stuck with her," R'sedel grinned. "One of the joys of only _visiting_ a baby."

"She'll grow out of it, you did."

"All right, fine," his son said with a resigned shrug. "When she gets to the toilet-trained-talking-cute stage, I'll take over the raising of her."

"If Ciara or her foster mother would let that happen."

"Ah, well if _that's_ all that's stopping it, I'm already a third of the way there! Besides," R'sedel gave him a playful wink, "I'm close with the Weyrleader, and he outranks them both."

"Just a little bit, just a little bit."
