"This is ridiculous!" B'vin said out loud as he sat gingerly in the empty room waiting for the healer to see him. He had been waiting for what seemed like forever, and no one had even come in to check on him since he was placed there. He hated the infirmary, and if his knee wasn't still bothering him he would have just stayed in his weyr. Finally fed up with waiting, he opened the door and walked down the corridor looking for someone to tell him what was taking so long. Not seeing anyone, he started barging into rooms, figuring he'd catch some lazy healer taking a nap. Instead he found Dyaera. She was alone in the alcove, sitting slumped on a cot with a thin sheet clutched to her chest and her scar covered back left bare. Brightly colored bruises stood out starkly on the pale skin of her neck and shoulders, with a few more appearing in sporadic placement on her sides and arms. She'd turned her head at the sound of the door opening, but her eyes narrowed when she caught sight of him. The vulnerable expression on her face was replaced instantly with defensive hostility as she struggled to pull her tunic up to cover her back. "What do you want?"

"Whoah." B'vin said as he almost backpedaled out of the room, then he recognized it's occupant and stopped. "Dyaera? What are you doing here?" It was probably her fault no one had seen him yet. She had probably come in whining about something stupid and they'd all dropped everything to attend to her. That's what D'cal always did, why would the healers be any different. Dyaera growled when the stiffness in her side kept her from getting her arm into the sleeve. "I had to see a healer," she snapped, her voice edged with frustration. "That's what people _do_ in the infirmary."

It was then that he really _looked_ at her. He saw the threadscore, that didn't bother him he had his own, but he also saw the bruising, and that nagged at him. He shouldn't have cared, he didn't like her so her current state shouldn't have phased him, but he did care... just a bit. "How'd you get those bruises?" It couldn't have been from a flight, the chances that her green would rise the same time as his was pretty slim. Frustration and pain turned Dyaera mean. "That's what your lover did to me because he was upset he lost your flight," she said bitingly. B'vin's mouth dropped and his face slackened as he tried to process what she was saying. "D'cal?" His D'cal, his lover. "He went to you?" After he lost the flight. "He _did_ that to you?" He was _upset_ that he lost the flight...

Giving up on the tunic, Dyaera pulled the sheet around her shoulders to hide her scars--and the obvious bruises. "Yes," she snapped. Guilt nagged at her though, and she turned away from B'vin. "It's not his fault. I bruise easy, and I'm still not recovered from the accident. He couldn't have known my back would seize up afterwards..." His knees were starting to throb from standing so he slumped down into the chair by the door. "Why did he go to you?" he still couldn't wrap his mind around D'cal causing all those bruises to someone, much less Dyaera. "He only goes to _me_ after flights because he knows he can't go to _you_." Dyaera snorted. "Haven't caught on yet, have you?" she asked bitterly. "He goes to you after flights because he wants to. He's just too sharding holdbred to admit it. And I guess I'm just the way he makes himself feel normal."

B'vin shot up out of the chair, refusing to believe what she was saying, "That's not the way it is! D'cal and I are _friends_." Non-speaking friends but still... "He loves you... you just make him so sharding confused all the time he's afraid to touch you!" Why was he defending D'cal? Why was he even bothering trying to explain things to her? "He seems to have no problem touching me," she retorted sharply. "And he certainly seemed upset about losing your flight. But don't worry, he made it clear that he understands you had no control over it, which is more than he _ever_ gave me."

Torn between wanting to be angry at D'cal for the way he mistreated Dyaera, especially after he was such an arse to him the previous day in his weyr, and wanting to defend him from Dyaera's biting remarks, B'vin stayed silent. She was telling him too much, accusing him and D'cal of too much. It was all just _too much_ to process and he couldn't think straight. His mind kept going back to what she had said; that he was upset he lost the flight, that he had caused the bruises, and that he _could_ have gone to Dyaera after other flights, but had gone to _him_
instead...

B'vin didn't even make an excuse, he was too confused and hurt to even begin to know what to say. He turned and left the room and limped back to his assigned room where he sat back down and quietly waited until a healer finally showed up to look at his bruised knees.
