"Tell me what?" asked Teseada, sounding and looking confused.
The greenrider looked at her friend and explained, "I overheard Y'nub talking to somebody in the corridor. They were talking about a lot of stuff... but they were talking about you too. You are a _bet_ Teseada.
Y'nub bet the other guy that he could have sex with you, and that his dragon could win Onnyth's flight because of it. He said he wanted to impress the Weyrleader."
"You're, you're not serious?" Y'nub, well he seemed so nice, and acted like he was serious about her.
Karri looked at her with sympathy. She couldn't even imagine what it must feel like... "I wish I wasn't. But I heard it all. I was coming to tell you when I fell."
"What do I do now?" asked the goldrider in a small voice. "I, I don't know what to do."
She didn't know what to say to that so she shrugged her shoulders and gave a small frown. "I don't know... I'd probably cry. Lots and lots of crying."
"I don't know whether to cry, or to throw things about and yell."
"All three sound good to me, and I didn't even sleep with him!" Karri exclaimed feeling the anger start to return now that Teseada seemed to be taking the news okay.
With that, Teseada did start to cry. "I, I feel like a fool," she sobbed. "If it's true that is."
Karri pursed her lips, she wasn't lying about it, and it annoyed her that her friend would suggest it. Maybe she hadn't though, she wasn't thinking very clearly at the moment, probably in a bit of shock. "It is true, but you're not a fool. He lied to you and used you and he's the one you need to blame."
"Why me?" Teseada was feeling a little sorry for herself now. It was partly confusion, partly shock and partly anger. she didn't know what to believe. To her Y'nub had always been loving and kind. There was that once with the greenrider, but he'd explained that.
"I told you, because you ride _gold_." Karri was trying to stay sympathetic, but she _had_ told her the man was no good... "The bet was that he could bed you and have his bronze fly Onnyth. You are quite the prize now you know, not just from him, but any other bronzerider with Weyrleader ambitions."
"I've got to talk to him, to ask him why."
"I don't know if right now is a good idea. You're all upset... and you don't want to start crying in front of him. He doesn't deserve to see you hurt." Karri failed to mention that she didn't want him to start laughing at her or calling her horrible names either.
"Karri. how did I get myself into this?"
She shrugged, there wasn't an easy answer to that. "How you got into this is not the point. It happened, you can't change it. I guess you need to come to terms with it and go from there."
"Do, do you mind if I go?" asked Teseada. "I, I think I need to be alone now."
"You know where to find me." Karri offered with a weak smile.
"Karri, I'm sorry," she said as she rose to her feet.
Karri frowned and looked at her friend, confused about what she could possibly be sorry for. "For what?"
"For you ending up here."
"Why? Did you push me down the stairs or something?" she couldn't help but joke, Teseada was being too rediculous.
"If Y'nub hadn't been..." she began. "He's a nasty rotten tunnelsnake!"
Now the girl was talking some sense! "Yes, he is. In fact I think calling him a tunnelsnake is an insult to tunnelsnakes!"
"A VTOL then?"
Karri's lips curved into a wicked smile and she gave a resolute nod of ther head. "I like that. Y'nub definetly resembles that annoying buzzing insect. And he'd be just as easy to flick away out of your mind. He's insignificant."
"We'll see when I speak to him."
"Want some help?" Karri liked the idea of having to pull Teseada off him... after a few good swings of course. "I, I think I might need it."
