N'vanik

N'vanik

Sarian was carrying a skin of wine and wearing a positively scandalous dress when she knocked on the door to N'vanik's weyr. "I heard you had your weyr to yourself again."

"And it looks like I already have company." He took his time looking her up and down before letting her in.

She smiled and slid past him, making sure to brush against him in all the right places. "It seemed like the friendly thing to do." "Glad you're in a friendly mood." N'vanik closed the door and followed her. Sex with Sarian was very welcome, but he was already thinking of ways to get her out of his weyr afterwards, in case Tal came over.

"Mmmm. Aren't I always?" She dropped the wineskin on his table and glanced back over her shoulder at him. "It's too bad you haven't had much free time lately."

He walked up behind her. "Oh? Did you miss my . . ." he slid an arm around her waist, "company?"

"Something like that," she replied with a grin. "I bet I can be a lot more entertaining than your previous company."

N'vanik stiffened. "Don't joke," he said quietly.

Sarian seemed oblivious to the warning tension in his body. "I'm not joking. It was really nice of you to let her stay here and all, N'vanik... but honestly. I don't know why you put up with it for as long as you did." As far as Sarian was concerned, a dragonless rider should be given too much fellis and the privacy to drink it. That's all she'd want if something happened to Ryerth.

"I have my reasons. Now stop talking about her." He wished Sarian would shut up. She was ruining his mood.

"Oh, is _that_ the way it was?" Sarian laughed throatily. "And here I thought she wasn't being accommodating, considering how frustrated you always were when you came to see me."

He stepped away from her, clenching his jaw. "You need to shut up about things that aren't your business!" his voice was low and dangerous.

Sarian turned and blinked at him in surprise. "Why are you being so sharding _defensive_? I didn't say there was anything wrong with it."

"Because I didn't sharding _use_ her!"

The greenrider held up her hands in a placating gesture. "I didn't say you did! Shards, you're a nice looking man, N'vanik. And you're reasonably pleasant between the furs." She grinned at him, not caring that his expression looked dangerous. She liked angry bronzeriders. "Who _wouldn't_ want to be accommodating? I never thought you forced her!"

"We haven't had sex," he said in a quieter tone.

Sarian tilted her head and studied him. "Are you sure? You're pretty worked up over it."

"What do you mean, am I sure? I would sharding well know if I had!"

"Really?" With absolutely no sense of self preservation, Sarian moved closer to him, sliding one hand down his arm. "You've never had a little too much wine and a little too much bare skin and woken up without being quite sure what you just did?"

N'vanik shoved her arm away. "I don't drink around her," he growled. "No wonder you've been so crabby," she retorted, answering his growl with a low chuckle. "Sobriety _and_ celibacy. I would have kicked her out a month ago."

"Good thing she didn't come to you, then." He was considering kicking someone _else_ out right now.

Since he'd pushed her hands away from his body, Sarian slid her hands over her own curves. "Somehow I don't think I'm her type. Though I heard she's pretty creative for a young girl. I wonder if she likes to share men..."

He was starting to get ideas about throttling Sarian. "Stop talking about her!"

"You're the one who's just standing there," she pointed out, her fingers going to the ties of her dress. "Seems to me like you could figure out a way to keep me quiet if you really tried." She slid around him as one strap of her dress slipped down her shoulder. Standing on tip-toe, she let her lips brush his ear. "You could always call me Talryne if it makes it better for you."

N'vanik spun and put his hands on her shoulders, pushing her toward the door. "That's it! _Get out_!" Loseth bellowed from his couch. She was so startled she tripped over the back of her dress and stumbled to the ground with a yelp. "Hey!"

He grabbed her arm roughly and pulled her up. "You should have just kept your legs open and your mouth shut!"

Now she was angry. "Don't take your problems out on me, bronzerider. It's not my fault your little dragonless girl wouldn't open _hers_."

N'vanik slammed her against the door. "I really don't want to be grounded again, but I am _this_ close--" he held up his fingers, "to knocking your teeth in! What happens between me and Talryne is _our_ business, not yours!"

The air slammed out of her body in a rush and she struggled for breath. "Fine! I don't _care_ about your sharding business anymore!" All she wanted now was to get out of his weyr before he injured her. Even while he'd been dragging her across the room, she hadn't been _scared_... but now she was.

He pushed her out of the way so he could open the door. "Go," he said in a low voice. The hand the wasn't on the door was clenched. For perhaps the first time in her life, Sarian did the smart thing and kept her mouth shut as she scrambled from his weyr.
