"G'len!" Ylisahn said in pleased surprise when she saw the greenrider near the door of her new office. "How are you?"
The greenrider chuckled as he came into the office, "Well the hangover not withstanding, I feel pretty good. And I come bearing gifts in congratulations." he added, presenting a small bouquet of wildflowers from behind his back.
"Oh how wonderful. Stay right there - don't move. Just ... stay."
Ylisahn rushed through the cavern and into the kitchens to find a vase and fill it with water. Back at the weyrlingmaster third's side she accepted the flowers and ushered him into the office. "These are lovely, G'len."
G'len grinned, "I thought you might like them, plus I figured your office could use a bit of livening up until you get it made your own."
"Ohh, you're sweet. It is a struggle, trying to make myself think of it as my office, not Mayla's. I suppose it will come right in time.
Sit down." Ylisahn waved a hand at the arm chairs in a semi-circle in front of the desk, and settled in another of them herself.
The greenrider nodded as he took the offered seat, "You'll get settled in in no time. You've already been doing half the work as it is."
"Not half! G'len, I hope you haven't said that to Nandia? _All_ the assistants have been doing more while Mayla was ill."
He couldn't help but chuckle at her modesty. "Doing more, yes. But you've taken the brunt of the workload, and _Nandia_ is the one who told me so."
"She's being kind." Ylisahn tilted her head on one side, studying his expression. "Do you think she minds? Me being promoted?" She had seen all the assistant headwomen briefly since taking up her promotion but hadn't found the time to really talk to them.
"Who?" G'len was momentarily confused, "My sister? Shards no! I think the thought of being headwoman briefly flashed in her mind, but you know her, she'd much rather get to spend her spare time tinkering around in the kitchens or hanging around the flight cots than dealing with all the responsibilities and headaches _you're_ going to have to handle."
"Oh. Thank you, I think. I'll try not to let too many of them become headaches," she said lightly.
"I'm sure you won't. You'll do just fine here." he assured her, "And if you ever get a bit burnt out and need a break, just find me and I'll fly you and Wirril out to a warm cove out on the coast for a day of relaxation!"
"Oh G'len!" Ylisahn jumped out of her chair and went to hug the greenrider. "You're a darling. It's friends like you that make it all possible. You and Tobereth, of course."
The greenrider hugged her right back, being a tactile type of person by nature. "Well I'm sure he appreciates being included, but really, what's a dragonride between friends?"
"Easy to say when you _have_ a dragon," Ylisahn laughed. "Those without are more appreciative." She supposed as Headwoman she could ask to be taken almost anywhere by the Weyr's dragonriders but G'len's offer wasn't about that. He was offering to take her and her weyrmate away for a complete break from her work, a _personal_ favor, not something done for the Headwoman.
"Well, if it's easy, then think nothing of it." G'len said lightly.
"Not that sort of easy and not 'nothing'. Not at all. I shall tell Wirril tonight and I know she'll want to say thank you, too. You're such a nice person, G'len."
"Okay okay, enough of the compliments, you're making this old boy blush." G'len teased as he stood himself up.
"You're not that old, G'len. Younger than me and I don't feel old."
She prodded at the corners of her eyes. "The wrinkles are lying."
G'len chuckled, "If you say so, but you don't have to deal with young weyrlings all day long, I think all the worry they cause me has aged me more than my years ever could."
"Oh. Yes, weyrlings could age a person."
He nodded then added, "But they also give me energy and envigorate me.
So maybe it all averages out?"
"As I said, G'len, you're not that old, so it must do."
