Description: Teseada has a less than pleasant encounter with D'enek and Y'nub
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 1 of Turn 4
Teseada was walking along the corridor on the way back to her weyr from Karri's when she heard a familiar voice. She froze, wondering why on Pern he had to come this way, and what her chances were of just stepping into the shadows and waiting for him to go past.
"Teseada?" Y'nub said startled, stopping in his tracks. He hadn't talked to her since their fight and he wasn't sure if she was still mad... or maybe willing to talk? If he could get back into her good graces, Larweth would still have a good chance at catching her queen.
"Um, how are you doing?"
"Okay," she muttered, glaring at him. "Okay, until I saw you."
So much for her being willing to talk. "I don't know why you're still mad, we had some good times. We could still try and work things out..."
"I don't think so," she said. "Not when it was all fake. All a bet from that sharding Bitran friend of yours." Her tone was bitter. "And, yes, I do believe Karri."
As if called, D'enek chose that moment to catch up with Y'nub. "Isn't this nice," he drawled. "Back together again."
Great, just what he needed, D'enek to rub it in further. He'd howled with laughter when Y'nub had told him about his fallout with Teseada, and he couldn't stop rubbing it in that he had won the bet between them. "No." he replied defensively as he kept his eyes on the goldrider, "Not back together."
"I knew you had better taste than this fat wherry!" D'enek laughed again, oblivious to the look on Teseada's face.
She wasn't going to let them see her cry, it took every ounce of self control, and a few more from Onnyth's loving reassurance not to burst into tears. Instead, she turned on her heels and fled, hearing those laughs behind her.
As he listened to D'enek laugh as she fled he felt his chest tighten with anger. He held his tounge though, it was irrational to want to protect her, she hadn't been anything other than a conquest to him.
"You shouldn't have done that." was all he said when he turned to his friend.
"Look at her run!" chortled D'enek. "She might lose some of the fat that way!"
Y'nub felt his fist tighten in an irrational urge to punch the brownrider. He made himself relax his hand, he needed to stop thinking of Teseada as something he needed to coddle and protect. She was of no importance to him anymore, and not worth a fight with his friend. "She's not worth the breathe, D'enek. Let's get going." "Yes. I'll find you a real woman, like that Hanni. She's more your type."
The bronzerider nodded and started back down the corridor. "Definetly more my type."
