Description: C'lor chats with N'solyn about having a family and being a dragonrider.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 28 of Turn 4
C'lor was watching a bluerider and two children as they splashed in the waves. He wondered what it would be like to have a family and be a dragonrider. He had a family at Emerald Falls and some cousins here at the Weyr, but he didn't have to juggle his time between them and taking care of Hayreith like Br'nick did. He had tried to talk to S'ric about it, but the weyrling didn't have much to tell him.
He would as Br'nick, but didn't see the point in bothering the busy wingsecond with something that was most likely to never happen as he wasn't seen as a ladies man. He was a good friend, but nothing more than that to the women he had ever talked with.
He waved back to the little boy and headed over to them when he heard N'solyn calling to him. "Are they yours?" he asked the bluerider curiously. They were the most adorable children that C'lor had seen including his half siblings.
N'solyn nodded and said, "Kyaira's seven and Aridin's four turns. They are always asking me to take them to the beach on the restdays. I finally gave in and brought them out here. Simieth likes the ocean as well, so I was really out numbered today. How are you and Hayreith?"
"We're well. I like to walk along the water's edge and feel the water lap at my feet. Hayreith likes to swim with the dolphins and flirt with the greens whenever he can. Can I ask you a question about your children?"
"Sure, what do you want to know?" the bluerider replied motioning for the children to come back towards him. He wondered what sort of questions a young bronzerider would have about children. He would think that the young man would have other things on his mind unless he got a girl pregnant and was concerned about that.
"How do you balance a family and being a rider?"
"Much like a crafter balances their time. My children are important to me, but I am a dragonrider first and foremost. That is why we have such loving foster mothers for those whose do not have non rider parents or weyrmates to care for the children."
C'lor had wondered about that as well. He was glad he had taken a chance to talk to the bluerider. He hoped that the man didn't think that he had gotten a girl pregnant and was wanting to know more to be prepared. He wasn't ready for anything like that yet, but one day he might like to have children. "I see. How often do you see them?" he asked thinking of a few other questions that he was curious about.
