"OOoody!" Treya had spied the tall, muscular rider from across the dining cavern; his size and stature made him hard to lose in a crowd, and her sharp eyes had searched him out from the doorway. Her voice was loud and shrill, and echoed across the less than full cavern. This morning Treya had been quick to dress after ablutions, she didn't want to miss the chance of seeing U'das before drills. She stood for a moment at the entrance, and waved, but it seemed he hadn't heard her. She skipped hastily down the last couple of steps, and then swished her way around and through the tables.
"Oh, Ooody, I missed you this morning, you were out of bed so fast..." her wide blue eyes looked up at him admiringly. Her hand snaked out and curled around his bulging forearm and she pulled at him, forcing him down so she could kiss his cheek. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were trying to avoid me."
she pouted, fetchingly.
Well, U'das had been trying to avoid her. Of the all annoying, young wenches that found bronzeriders attractive, she was the worst. "Hi, there. I'm an early riser," he replied casually, keeping his irritation out from his voice.
"Well, you could have woken me, I can be an early riser as well, Oody." She linked arms with him, and walked towards the servery with him. "We could have bathed together, I can be very handy in the bathing chamber..." she looked up at him and winked suggestively.
U'das groaned. The way she was mangling his name too! He had always been U'das, even to his weyrmate and closest friend. Only his mother had sometimes called him Uddie.
"I know, sweety," she patted his arm, mistaking his groan for one of missed opportunity, "but we'll still have tonight, and tomorrow night and whenever you like..." totally oblivious to his attitude, Treya pulled the bronzerider across to the servery hatch and handed him a plate. "Come on, sweety, you need to keep up your strength!" she began piling spoonfuls of porridge onto his plate, "Thank's, but I'm all ready eaten," U'das said and pushed the plate back to her.
Besides, she was making him to loose appetite.
"Aww, you didn't wait for me?" she fluttered her eyes up at him. "Never mind, tonight we can have a little privacy in one of the alcoves, just you and me..."
she gave him an exaggerated wink.
"I think I'm busy tonight," U'das replied, mentally cursing. He had no one else to blame but himself. They looked so tempting after few drinks but when morning came you wake up and realized you have slept with someone who could be your daughter or granddaughter. If only he would learn to keep his pants buttoned!
"Oooh." Treya affected a pout as she looked up at him with her eyes wide; trying to look as alluring as possible. "You mean, I have to remember you with just _one_ night?"
"Yes. I'm too old for you. Find someone younger, who can keep up with you,"
U'das said as gently as could when all he wanted to was run off and hide.
"But Oody...that...wasn't what you were saying last night." once again she had lost out, and once more she wasn't exactly sure why, wasn't there someone out there who wouldn't just want a single night with her? "You're _really_ sure?"
she asked again, her hand dropping the plate to the counter top.
"Yes, I'm sure. Last night was wonderful, but I don't thing we're suited for each other for anything long term," U'das said.
"And another one bites the dust.." she said, almost to herself. "It's okay, Ooody." She held up her hand, "You don't need to explain, I've heard it all before." the light died in her eyes and she turned away. "See you at drills.."
"Okay... see you..." U'das said awkwardly. Shards, he hated this. Hated the hurt look in her eyes. It made him feel like big, bad oaf of a bronzerider.
