Birigundi admired Jusaraipath as she emerged from the Weyrlake, freshly scrubbed. "She's looking good, Laithyne!" He called happily to the greens rider as she followed her lifemate back on to dry land.
"Hey there! You looking forward to the upcoming hatching?" Laithyne called as she hit the warm sand. The only downside with bathing her green was that she got wet. At least the winter lake was shielded from the elements.
"Of course! I'm just waiting for the right one. It only takes one, you know." He smiled at his friend as she walked towards him. It had seemed likes ages before when the two had been Candidates together. She had Impressed, and he had been left standing. Still, it could not be helped. It was just not his time yet.
"That it does. I wouldn't trade her for anything, not even to have a husband again."
"You miss the married life?" He asked surprised. Birigundi had come to rather enjoy the Weyrs openness, and he had found many greenriders had as well.
"Not really. I like the idea of being loved for who you are not because of the ability to have children. You met him, would you want to be married to him?" she said with a laugh.
"No," he laughed, "the man was a sharding fool. But I would have liked to have _been_ him. At least for a little while."
"Do you want to get married, Birigundi?" she asked curiously.
He shrugged. "I want to be a dragonrider. I can't be a dragonrider and get married."
"True. You can always have a weyrmate. That's almost the same thing, but a lot easier to deal with if things don't work out." she said trying to be helpful.
"Well, in that case..." he thought for a moment. "I really don't know.
I don't see a need to be bound to one person anymore, this being a Weyr and all. But I might find a woman who changes my mind. What about you?
Do you want to be bound to one man again?"
"If the right one came along, I'd definitely consider the possibility."
she said with a grin. This was a subject that she had thought about for awhile and had never really come up with a good reason not to settle down if she found the right man. She may not be able to have children, but it was better not to being a dragonrider anyway.
"And what would this right man of yours be like?" Birigundi asked as he settled back into the warm sand.
"He'd definitely not mind that his mate was possibly unable to have children and very dedicated to being a dragonrider. Other than that, the rest doesn't really matter." she said settling down beside him without thinking about what she was doing.
"You know, I think you just described _my_ perfect man too," Birigundi said straight-faced but with a twinkle in his eye.
"_Your_ perfect man? I thought you were definitely a ladies man, my friend." she said teasingly.
"A man's heart is a well of secrets," he said as a smile spread across his face. "Would it disappoint you if I was greenrider material?"
"Of course, you could be a bluerider and have it both ways!" she replied her face lighting up with laughter.
"That would be perfect if I was attracted to men too..." He wrinkled his nose at her and broke into a smile. "I'm afraid I love women too much to be a bluerider."
"Glad to hear it, cause I like you too much to share you with another man." she said meaning it. She could share him with another woman, but she'd have trouble sharing him with a man.
"I think that's rather selfish of you. I would have to share _you_ with other men," he said as he poked at her side with his finger. She had always been fun to flirt with and tease. Birigundi had been disappointed when she Impressed and had to live a celibate life during weyrlinghood. This vein of teasing served to remind him she was under no such restrictions anymore.
"You already share me with other men sometimes and I know the ladies are always trying to get closer to you." she replied with a laugh. This conversation had no point what so ever, but it was very entertaining.
He grinned. "A few of them actually succeed."
"That's always nice to know. Some of the greenriders and candidates fall all over every man that walks into the dining hall. It's downright silly if you ask me."
"Is it silly to you if a man falls over every woman he sees?" Birigundi asked with a teasing grin. "Personally, I like it when a woman falls all over me. Saves me a little work."
):You and your friend need to oil me.:{ the green said from her spot on the warm sand before her rider had a chance to reply.
**Why does Birigundi have to help?**
}:He needs the practice.:{
**Oh, well are you dried off?**
}:Yes.:{ the green replied sounding slightly irritated at all the questions.
With a shake of her head, the greenrider said, "Jusaraipath has requested that we oil her. I don't know why she wants you to help. All she said was that you need the practice. As for men falling all over women, it depends on if she was trying to attract attention or not."
"Well, it's hard not to notice when there is a woman on you," Birigundi laughed as he stood to his feet. He offered Laithyne a hand up. "We'd better not keep a lady waiting."
"It wouldn't be a good idea, she might decide to start flinging sand around." Laithyne said from experiences during weyrlinghood.
