Cinale

Cinale

"I'm glad you're going to be nearby, hon," Cinale told him once she had set one particularly large box down at his bedside. With a weary sigh, she all but plopped gracelessly on the edge of his bed, resting her legs. Helping Daigoro move boxes to and from different quarters was no easy feat!

Daigoro smiled to himself, secretly glad himself. "Well, the Hallmaster felt you ladies needed a bit of protection. Apparently he thinks I would be some sort of deterrent."

She grinned at him. "Well, of course. Haven't you ever _looked_ at yourself in a mirror, Daigoro?"

Daigoro walked over to the mirror, the only decoration in the room. "Hmmm... Round eyes, round face, big dumb grin, and grey hair. You're right, Cinale, I could scare the wings off a flaming dragon."

Cinale snorted, then scooted back further on the bed so she could prop her elbows up on her knees, her chin resting in her hands. She tilted her head slightly, meeting his eyes in the mirror. "You do _not_ have a big dumb grin. And I think you can be rather intimidating when you want to be."

"I might look big, but I rarely get angry." He frowned slightly. "And I would certainly never use it against a woman. It's rare for me to lose my temper, Cinale, but I hope my presence in not necessary, for both Jhonnel and my own sake. I don't want to know what kind of meanness I can be stirred into."

Her smile faded and her expression turned serious. "I hope so too, hon," she replied quietly.

"Well, no use worrying about what _might_ be. I'm sure I'll do the right thing should the necessity arise," he said with a smile, not quite as confident as he wanted it to be. "Until then, the only thing I have to worry about is how bad my brewer buddies will tease me for moving into the 'womans wing'."

Cinale snorted, humor returning to her eyes. "The 'womans wing'? Well, I suppose they _will_ tease you..." She grinned at him, folding her legs under her. "But who are you to complain? You're closer to the kitchen this way!"

"Do you really want to encourage me to visit the kitchen _more_?" he asked with a teasing glint in his eye.

She laughed. "Sure I do."

"Well, then, why don't we pack all this back up and move me in there?"
he laughed. "I'm sure I can convince Fielton that the kitchen is Jhonnel's most likely point of entry and therefore must be guarded night and day..."

Grinning, Cinale slid off the edge of the bed. "I think I may even have some rolls left over from baking this morning..."

"Well, you never know," Daigoro said with a serious face, "Jhonnel my decide to hide in one of them. Perhaps I should bite into a few and check. Just for safety's sake."

She nodded solemnly as she approached him. "I think that's a very good idea, hon."

He shook his head in mock despair. "Of course, you know the bubbly pies are a bit bigger. He may decide to wiggle into one of those. It could be dangerous."

"Oh, you think so, do you?"

"Yes," he said as his serious expression was beginning to be betrayed by the upturn of his lip. "And the klah might be tainted. I will have to try that as well."

Cinale stared at him for a brief moment before she started to laugh. "Oh, you! You're completely transparent!"

"What do you mean?" he asked, faining hurt. "I sincerely believe Jhonnel intends to sneak into Miryene's room hidden in a pastry!"

"Of course," she snorted, taking his arm. "Come on then, hon, and we'll see if I have any bubblies stashed away..."

"And I will have to insist that all fresh baked bread will have to pass my inspection," he said as he allowed her to lead him towards the door. "You can hide all manner of things in a good loaf of bread."
