Description: Jyramikah and Ylisahn discuss ways to supplement the Weyr's diminished food supply.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 4, day 1 of Turn 4

Jyramikah had gone to make sure that the kitchens were free of debri and in usable condition. The lower caverns was slowly being cleared for rehabitation as they cleaned up the storm damage each day. She knew that they would have to make a plea to the surrounding areas for help to be able to feed all of their people and their dragons. The crews were still clearing out debri when the goldrider stepped into the kitchens. "What survived?" she asked Ylisahn coming to stand beside the headwoman as they surveyed the remains.

"Everything we carried upstairs and very little that we didn't. Some tables, the odd chair. We've found battered pots and pans all over the place. The main stoves didn't move, though, so they're going again now, which is a blessing." Ylisahn looked at the Weyrwoman Second. "There's not enough of anything, really."

"I was afraid of that. Can we get help from the surrounding holds?"

"Most will help out, I assume. Not only do we keep their fields Thread-free, but many of them have family here, after the Turns of Searching from among them. They won't want their children and siblings to go without."

"I'll get a idea of where the unclaimed areas are so that we can send some gathering parties out. Is there anything that you can think of that might stretch what we have a little longer?" Jyramikah asked as she tried to come up with ideas herself. The last thing they needed was to add starvation to their list of complaints and illnesses. The riders were all ready understaffed and over worked not to mention exhausted as were the weyrfolk she was sure.

"Not really. Tell people not to waste food, but they know that."
Ylisahn tried to think of anything else. "Fishing? Perhaps? Set the youngsters too it. Fish stews and soups would go a long way."

"That's an idea. I know my children would find it fascinating."
Jyramikah replied excited at the new idea despite the fact that she was not fond of fish.

"Would you like me to organise that?" Ylisahn asked.

"If you don't mind. You know who would be better at it than I do. I will however mention it to the Weyrleader and we can get riders involved as well."

"If they don't have more important work," Ylisahn said, sure that they would have.

"I know there are more than a few riders who like to fish in their spare time. You've done wonders with the cleanup, Ylisahn." Jyramikah remarked not wanting to make it seem as if there was no progress being made. She felt like everytime she spoke with the headwoman it was only to ask about what their needs were and how much more was needed to replace what they'd lost.

"Thank you." Ylisahn looked around the kitchens and sighed. "Still a lot to do, but we're getting there. Luckily there's been none of the illnesses the healers warned us about, so we must be getting everywhere clean enough."

"That is a good sign. The last thing we need is an illness to breakout because of the flooding. Let me know if there's anything you need and we'll see what we can do to fix the problem."

"I will, weyrwoman."

"Have a good afternoon." Jyramikah replied as she turned to head up to her office to see what she could accomplish in the area of gathering food supplies for their depleted pantry. She thought she had a map that was current in her office if not she'd go see the harper hall or the archives of the Weyr.
