Teseada

Teseada

"Shards, what a day!" U'kaiah sighed as he flopped down beside Teseada.
"How did the Queen's wing fare? Any casualties?" he asked the goldrider on the sand beside him.

"One of the new greens got herself a minor scoring," came the reply as Teseada finished working up a lather on the brush she was about to use to scrub the gold. "More hurt pride than anything else, or so it seems."

"We all get scored sometime. I remember then first time I got scored.
It was a bit of a shock." Then again, it wasn't all that minor...
Though he was lucky it wasn't a lot worse...

"I think they'll learn," said Teseada. "I mean the first time I was up there I got agenothree on me, and that wasn't pleasant at all."

"Oooo, I can imagine not." U'kaiah had never thought about that before... The Queens all fly with a tank of flamable liquid on their backs shooting a long flame out of a tube in their hands... Is something with wrong... He literally shuddered to think! "Yeah, please don't do that. Our queens are too valuable as it is!"

"It was the smell more than anything, ruined my gloves." Teseada laughed. "At least I got things going wrong over with."

"Yes, well, gloves are easily replaced, but golds are not and nor are their riders." He gave her a teasing nudge to take the sting out of his admonishment. "She's gotten big, you know," the bronzerider said with a nod out to the frolicking gold. "She might be nearling her full growth now."

"I hope she doesn't grow too much more, but I guess I can always draft a candidate or two to help me with bathing her."

"And I'm sure there'd be a few bronzeriders more than happy to help too," he said with a knowing smile.

"And brownriders too."

"Oh yes, them too. So tell me." He leaned in conspiritorially, "Is there a special bronzerider or brownrider out there?"

"Not at the moment," there had been, or she had thought him special for a while, but then he had to go prove what a lowdown piece of scum he really was.

"Oh well, give it time. I'm sure you will." It seemed the days spent with Trae had turned him into a hopeless optimist.

"You're right, one day I'll meet a good one."

"And who knows. Maybe he won't even be a rider. It's not that unusual for a Goldrider to find their match in a crafter." He certainly thought crafters had a lot to offer a goldrider. Stability for one. A longer life expectancy for another.

"Just so long as he likes Onnyth, and she likes him."

"Who could _not_ like Onnyth? She's gorgeous!"

"She is indeed," laughed Teseada, "Not that I'm biased of course. But she's picky about who she likes, and her opinion counts."

"Oh of course not," the bronzerider chuckled. "After all, that's what makes the golds queens!"

"It is indeed. And I'd not have her any other way."

"Well, do you want some help scrubbing her down? I've already finished with Kalamath, and he doesn't want to go back to his weyr just yet. He wants to show off his pretty hide for the ladies."

"Yes, yes I would appreciate the help. She'll be showing off in her turn as well though."

"And Kalamath will do his duty and admire her, I'm sure," U'kaiah grinned getting to his feet and reaching down to help her up.

"As he should," she said accepting his help. "As he should."
