The news was spreading like wildfire that there were eggs hardening on the sands. Tabarnith had done the Weyr, and Nikornath proud. Already the bronze was telling his rider just how many fine bronze eggs there were in the clutch, and how many fine dragons he had sired this time.

All K'sedel could do was go with it, when it came from Nikornath. He knew that it was the same last time, and the time before. A proud Papa, that was definitely the description of Nikornath.

With a slight smile on his face, K'sedel walked into the dining caverns.

Ciara caught his eyes from her nearby corner, and gestured for him to join her. She smiled at him as soon as he sat. "I hear from Elli that I am to congratulate you, K'sedel. She says there are quite a number of eggs hardening. What's the count?"

"Fourty Three," replied the Weyrleader. He leant back in his seat, relaxing a little. "Tabarnith and Nikornath seem to have outdone themselves this time."

"You must be so proud. And Nikornath too!"

"He is, we both are," was the reply. He gave her a smile. "The real celebration will begin when they hatch of course."

"Hatchings are the best of ceremonies," she grinned. "I love to dance and dance until I can't move my feet anymore!"

"Perhaps there should be a similar celebration for clutchings?"
suggested K'sedel. "After all, it can be a time of joy as well."

"There should be," she agreed with a grin. "You could always start up that tradition, you know."

"Well why don't we?" He gestured to one of the harpers who had just come into the dining cavern. A little music was scheduled for that evening anyway, but it didn't take much persuasion to get them to play dance tunes.

After a moment or two listening to the music, tables began to be moved aside, and a few couples crept onto the dance floor. K'sedel looked at Ciara. "May I have the pleasure?"

"Of course," she smiled, rising.

K'sedel offered her his arm, and led her onto the impromptu dance floor.
As the next tune began to play, he took the greenrider in his arms, and began to lead her through the steps.

The steps started out slow, but then the tempo of the music began to increase. There were dips, twirls, and he even lifted her up off her feet a couple times. Her arms curled tighter around his neck, her body sliding down his after one particularly high spin. She grinned at him, her gray eyes bright, her hair flickering like a wildfire around her face.

When the music ended, as it had to K'sedel smiled at the greenrider in his arms. He hadn't enjoyed himself this way in too many turns now. "I didn't know you danced so well," he said.

"I've been dancing since I was a little girl," she told him with a breathless smile, shaking back her heavy hair. "Almost for as long as I've been singing."

"Harper training?" he asked as the music started again. This time the tune was slower, crying out for couples to hold each other close as they slowly turned around the floor. It was meant as a prelude to other activities, although most didn't need that encouragement.

"Mm-hmm... I would have become an instructor if I hadn't Impressed Elli.
The Weyrharper was very sad to see me go, I remember..."

"But you did, and here you are with me, and not up there with the players."

"Mmm... I have no regrets, K'sedel. I'm glad I'm here on the floor with you." She gave him a smile before resting her head against him, her arms folding loosely around his waist.

"Good," he said, enjoying the feeling of her closeness to him.

It seemed that as they swayed along to the music, Ciara's awareness of him sharpened. Sensitive to all the places their bodies touched, she shifted closer against him, her head moving so her lips could brush against the side of his neck.

"Perhaps we should take this elsewhere," he suggested after a long moment.
His chin rested on her hair, he could smell her scent, and he wanted very much to spend some more time with this greenrider.

"Perhaps we should," she murmured, a slow smile curving her lips.

Then gently, discreetly, he led her away from the music, to somewhere that they could have privacy to dance in their own special way.
